Guest guest
Hi Ranjit! In the Yogic practice of Brahmacharya there are three divisions: 1. Physical-which includes a regulated family life 2. Mental-to maintain balance of mind 3. Spiritual-observing complete celibacy and practicing yoga, rituals, and meditation for acquiring knowledge of God. In the Yoga Sutras masturbation is not spoken, but it certainly speaks to preventing undue wastage of the ultimate product of nutrition in the entire body...shukra (reproductive fluid). Though it is the smallest in quantity it has the greatest potency of the seven tissues(dhatus). Besides for reproduction it has the additional fuction of providing stablity to the body, hence undue loss results in loss of strength and endurance. Ojas is extracted from the reproductive tissue and is responsible for bodily energy, brightness, strength, and immunity. According to Dr. David Frawley "Individuals who do not regulate their sexual energy properly are prone to loss of strength and weak immune function." Sexual relations are viewed as a sacred union in Yoga/Ayurveda; and so with a loved partner and with awareness of both partners there is an exchange of energy and strength and a depletion does not occur as it does in masturbation or in sex without love and awareness. Yet there are other things to consider, time of the year, health, strength, and willingness of both partners etc. Ayurveda is a very exact science!!!!! ha ha and there are specifics about every aspect of life. This is probably way more info than you are asking for. (?) I believe the bottom line is... masturbation is really not considered beneficial in any way and possibly harmful to both body and mental health. Wishing you good health and lots of OJAS!
