Guest guest
Satnam! PieterJi! I had chronic constipation problem which was overcome by taking 3/4 glasses of luckwarm water in the morning & doing some exercises. However after my coming to Minneapolis, USA,for last 40 days I am facing the problem of constipation & my technique of taking of water & execise failed. I also took Hatika,( harada)but of no avail. I donot have motion in the morning for 2/3 days.I M 63.I feel sceptical of doing SAt kriya & other K Y kriyas without clear motion( empty stomach) in the morning. IN Kundalini yoga book, Shakti Parwah K.KhalsaJI has mentioned about Vatskar Dhouti Kriya at page92 I also tried it but it is also not fruitful. In one of your E mail you mentioned about 7 type of vatskar kriya but shakti Kaur ji has mentioned ony one type of kriya in the book. Would U be kind enough to eloberate in detail the process of doing all 7 types vatskar kriyas if u think these r helpful for constipaion or u may suggest some other remedy/ technique for the same . My preference is to overcome all diseases, to the maximum possible extent by exercise & not by meditions. Suggestions from any other members r also welcome. Guest guest
I have been helping a relative of mine who had been experiencing severe constipation (6-7 days a week) for nearly two years, when we started to attack this problem consistently using a multi-pronged strategy. I am very happy to say that she is now free of constipation (and also of the various problems that fall-out from constipation). Let me share our approach in tackling this problem. You might want to try it out. First, a word about constipation. One needs to do everything one can to keep the elimination system working fine. Else, the constipated stuff gradually pollutes the blood, which gets circulated to every other part of the body, resulting in malfunctioning of every system in the body. Many are quite dismissive when it comes to dealing with constipation problems, as they assume it is a relatively minor problem. It is not. For instance, some medications can lead to dehydration, resulting in constipation, and it gets into a vicious circle. In my relative's case, I suggested the following. 1) Gradually increase the water intake ( she had to sip nearly 16 glasses of water to break her constipation -- it was quite severe in her case ). It is difficult to gulp down lots of water. I suggested that she sip water all throughout the day. It took us nearly 5 months to get her to this level of drinking water, and to make her constipation-free for one full week (and, this was in combination with other moves which are mentioned below). I did celebrate this occasion with a good hike. 2) To take at least 2-3 different fruits and 2-3 different vegetables. 3) To take raw-beetroot juice everyday ( My relative did not like taking raw beetroot, instead she cooks beets and makes different preparations ). Figure a way out to take beetroot in a manner you like. It has tons of fiber, and cleanses liver. 4) Take greens regularly -- it has tons of fiber, which will provide enough roughage to relieve constipation. Fiber/cellulose is not digestable, and can only be passed out. 5) Do stretches -- yoga -- especially poses which stretch and contract the abdominal and pelvic regions. It was in trying to deal with my relative's problem that I got into analyzing different poses scientifically and improvise on them. You may want to look at my website contents at voth.hec.utah.edu/~gayathri/yoga_poses.html to understand the benefits of different poses. 6) Practise long deep breathing, at least for a few minutes. This is great for constipation. Check out the archives for "more on breathing" to get the movement till the anus while breathing. 7) Do jal-neti, and gaja-karni. THis will remove the mucus and help in the movement of the entire mucus lining from the throat to the pelvic region. This lining needs to move in convulsions (it is called peristalsis ), so that food particles can move down the esophagus, then move down into the intestines and get digested, and then move further down and finally out through the anus. If there is sticky mucus accumulated, the mucus linings are not able to move in wave-like convulsions. As a result, the food does not move and get digested, gas accumulates as the food putrifies, and also constipation arises as things remain stagnant. 8) Chew food really, really well. Munch at least 60-70 times before swallowing, and mash the food as much as possible to complete the digestion as much as possible before it reaches the stomach. Even when you eat lots of food, you are going to feel light, if you chew food well. Only when the food gets digested well, does the nutrients get assimilated by the body. Chewing well can work wonders with constipation. Take good amount of time to eat food. 9) A multi-vitamin tablet a day. The above steps are all simple, but incredibly helpful, to anyone and everyone, in my opinion. Looking back, when dealing with this issue, there were many times when it was very frustating and depressing (healing takes time and patience), but, in going through it, both me and my relative are much better-off and much wiser today. Thank God. Gai
Guest guest
constipation: Eating more fresh fruits and veggies may help with this problem along with increasing your water intake. Also consider adding some flax seeds, that you grind in coffee grinder, into your diet daily to salads or even smoothies. You salads could include some olive oil vs. prepared dressings by store. I have heard of some mixing into ground flax seeds into their drinking water, but it becomes like a jellish drink and not something I choose to do. Start with teaspoon and try that for few days. Let me know how it goes and welcome to email me directly. I do have a health/wellness passion and also business so my desire is for all to be well. I hope this gives you relief. Oh, from my studies, 2-3 bowel movements per day is normal, but aim towards the 3 is best. Of course, continue exercising too. The goal of overcoming all diseases is a great one to work towards. Wish more people thought along those lines. Keep up the journey. carolg

Guest guest
Sat Nam Dharam, I'd like to know if there are other exponents of Kundalini Yoga. Who or what are they? My friends always express surprise that I follow the one propounded by a Sikh -- Yogi Bhajan. Theresa
