Guest guest
hi Lila, I don't know about the yogic significance of keeping the left leg over right for lotus pose, but i surely know from experience that it is much easier to accomplish and then to maintain the posture for long duration, then keeping the right on the left leg. Guest guest
Namaste, I believe it is because the right side is the male side and left is female in hindu tradition where yoga originated. Yoga/ tantra predates Sikhism by many thousands of years. In Goddesses worship, for exemple, you perform many rituals in the left side direction, (as opposed to right direction for male deities). Women sit on left side of temple, men on the right. All these reflect the natural polarisations of energies in nature. For women,to switch sides for certain asaans /kryias in Yogic/tantric practices is allowing the natural flow of energy to run its natural course and polarisation and thus let the "shakti" fully develop unhindered. I noticed also that amongst the Sikhs from Western Sikh Dharma, women wear the kara on their left arm and men on right. Another show of understanding of the natural laws. Orthodox Sikhs however, all wear kara on right arm. As I am a Shakta Hindu, I thought i could help with more info about this "left over right for women " Sat Nam, Aum Krim Kaliye Namah Phildas Surakshadevi Bhakta Kundaliniyoga, preeti mishra <preetims> wrote: > hi Lila, > I don't know about the yogic significance of keeping > the left leg over right for lotus pose, but i surely > know from experience that it is much easier to > accomplish and then to maintain the posture for long > duration, then keeping the right on the left leg. > > Sat Nam > Preeti > > > > Calendar - Free online calendar with sync to Outlook. > http://calendar. Guest guest
Sat Naam In Ashtanga Yoga they say always left over right. Someone told me it has something to do with the kidney points? But I'm not sure what! Yet! My own take on it, is put the right over left at the beginning of yoga practice as the right side is more energizing. (Male side) Put the left (female side) over right at the end of the yoga practice to calm yourself down for meditation. I'm into balance & symmetry so practice both ways.
