Hi Suzanne,

A bit of clarification. Swara and swara yoga are two different things.

Swara Yoga is breathing to change nostrils at will and to alter mental

states.

Swara or Swar are nothing more than the seven notes of the Indian

musical scale. Sometimes called Sur. However, learning to chant these

sounds "properly" can be a yogic learning experience. The body and mind,

when relaxed and toned in proportion, makes a beautiful sound.

See email earlier this week regarding course with Bhai Baldeep Singh

FINDING YOUR TRUE VOICE

A Singing Course in the Classical Sikh Style of Northern India

About the Course:

Taught in the oral tradition of Naad Yoga - the way in

which the singing of gurbani was actually taught in the Gurus times.

Beginning with Aakar, the basic fundamental for developing the

true voice, practice continues throughout the day. Through intensive

sessions of exercising the voice in scales (Raga) and rhythm (Tal) as well

as listening to beautiful compositions in the original style, students are

being prepared for this beautiful, authentic style.

About the Teacher:

Bhai Baldeep Singh is a young man whose family heritage and personal

choices have placed him in a unique position of mastery of this sacred

tradition. He represents the thirteenth generation in a family of

master musicians known for their adherence to the original kirtan

maryada, which can be traced back to Guru Arjan Dev Ji himself. His

illustrious granduncles, Bhai Gurucharan Singh and Bhai Avtar Singh, who

sing at Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, New Delhi, are his first teachers.
