Dhanurasana mean the Bow posture - to attain it lie flat on your chest in a

relaxed manner - i.e., keeping legs apart, hands bit away from the body

palms facing the sky and head in a comfortable position. Now prepare the

mind to go to Bow posture, visualize the posture. To go in to posture, bring

the legs togather and hands by the side of the body, then fix the chin on

the ground. Now fold the legs at knee that calf muscles touch the back of

the thighs and then lifting the hands catch hold of the respective lower

legs just above tha ankles in a way that four fingers are at on side and

thumb on the other side so that one can have firm grip on the legs. Now pull

both the legs upward that automatically the upper extremity gets lifted up -

keep the head up and will have a beautiful pull at the back and a nice

stretch at the neck. Althrough try to maintain a normal beathing. Once in

the final position take the mind to the breath, remain steady and enjoy the

posture.

This posture benefits in repairing all sort of little damages in the spinal

cord, expands the chest, pressure on the abdoman improves digestion and

removes the slugishness and it also improves the functioning of Thyroid.

Persons with injured back should not take the final posture, however, lying

on chest and lifting the head up and folding the legs - will help them, pull

should be avoided. Persons having hernia and ulcer or any stomach ailment

may not be comfortable doing this posture.

Hope this gives some idea about the bow posture
