Guest guest
I am not familiar at all with how to approach this practice on a daily basis as a beginner does anyone have some sort of schedule to follow for beginners?
Guest guest
I would say... decide what your time commitment is going to be then then choose a few beginner kriyas and work with them for a awhile...alternating them to get a feel for KY. Then once you are familiar with the basics...expand your commitment. Slowly work up to doing "something" everyday until you are doing a full practice of yoga and meditation daily....you need to practice both for balance. I began by just doing a little breathing a few times a week...to doing a few poses here and there...to doing one yoga set outside of my class I attended each week...to doing that three times a week....to doing it everyday....to 40 day committed practices...to 90 day practices...to 120 day practices....and on and on it goes! ha ha! Just begin. Guest guest
I like....The Kriya for elevation, Awakening the 10 bodies, Surya Kriya, Kriya for Disease Resistance, The basic spinal energizer series and the Kriya for morning sadhana ( I love this one) (it's long though). These are the sets I usually use in a beginner's class and once everyone has totally fallen in love with their experience so far...then I bring in the Nabhi Kriya! Ha Ha! I used to do the Nabhi Kriya in like the second class I taught in a session.....but the dropout rate was high after that! So now...I use a little more finesse.....we ease into the experience alittle more now! Ha Ha! I think it's important to foster feelings of love for what you are practicing, before you jump into something really challenging...because when it becomes challenging, then you have that loving feeling to remember in your consciousness and it helps you to move through your blocks?? Guest guest
Sat Nam All, I have been reading the advice given to the beginner and I'm wondering if Archer Pose might be the answer to my situation or if there is something else that I might try. I've indicated here before that my husband is a restless spirit and we move alot. Well, we have once again moved, this time to Los Angeles! I've been staying with my daughter and son-in-law now since the end of May and because of space, my husband stays at my son and daughter-in-law's apartment a mile away. My problem, I have lost my daily space for Sadhana!!! The space where I sleep is SOOOOO very small that a cat couldn't do much in there. I'm sure that I will be here for a couple more months while we search for a place of our own. I need help in getting myself centered again. Would the Archer Pose be the answer? What else? I've noticed that the tension in my neck and shoulders has reappeared and that my lower back is getting stiff. I did start to do the Heal Your Back video that Nirvair Singh has out to get myself back into the groove and loosen up, but I feel very unbalanced at the moment. I used to be able to move with grace during the asanas, even with my wei ght. Now I can bearly grunt through and I haven't gained a thing (haven't lost either). I should also say that I was on a massive weightloss program and lately haven't been able to get into that either! It's important that I lose ALOT of weight, FAST, for my blood pressure and to be able to go into poses much easier. My diet sucks as I don't have any control over the meals here and they are meat eaters (I need more balance). Why can't I get going? I feel like a slug. Are there any teachers out here who deal with diet and nutrition who can help me get through my time living here with my kids? Help!! Guest guest
Satnam! While reading Kundalini yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan , by Shakta kaur Khalsaji, as page no. 123 wherein the functions of ten bodies are explained, there is also mention of the Command center and it is mentioned that the command center is the center from which you direct the play of the ten bodies. From here you master the ten bodies---" I would request to kindly clarify as to whether command center refers to 3rd Eye centr or Crown chakra. Thanks , & regards. _ Download the hottest & happening ringtones here! Guest guest
Dear Swami mommy Mary, At least in Los Angeles you have a group sadhana. Anything you do for your self in the Amrit Vela (ambrosial hours 2-6am) is 10x more powerful than any other time of the day. Go to the ashram, knock on the door. If no answer, knock again...... or go to Golden Bridge (http://shop2.goldenbridgeyoga.com/store/index.cfm?fa=sched) for the Sadhanas that happen there. If that is a bigtime hassle, then do something at home. Think First chakra...your situation seems to be needing stability. Do crow pose for 5 - 11 mins at 4am.......then go back to sleep, if this idea is too new for you. Play with it. Body drops are also good. Another idea is to do something for your thymus and immunity as this has got to be "overwhelming", and pushing your boundaries a bunch. (http://www.sahej.com/ahamkara.html). There are some good sets in "Transitions.........." by Gururattan. The set on page 70 even has archer pose in it. One of my all time favorites is on p. 73. You need a Gong or a Cd of the Gong to do it properly (there are 2 different ones at cgi-bin/start.cgi/store/shop.html?showcat=cd) Keep us posted, Dharam P.S. Really curious what your husband's whole birthday is, (looking for a a big One in there somewhere, or maybe a Five in the Karma position? Guest guest
Sat Nam Mary, I sympathize with your situation and it is understandable that you feel ³like a slug²--this transition you are going through is probably more difficult on you than you realize...so don¹t be too hard on yourself but at the same time realize what must be done to help yourself. There is a teacher in Los Angeles who teaches classes at Yoga West his name is Guru Singh....his presence alone heals....you may want to try one of his classes---either on Mon night at 6:30, Tues morning at 9:00am or Thurs. eve at 6:30‹the classes aren¹t too hard and he also gives very inspiring lectures before the kriya....you may consider this as an option to boost your motivation and sooth your soul. Whatever you do though, don¹t give up on the yoga and don¹t eat the meat! make yourself some beans and rice- that¹s easy and inexpensive...but eating meat will not assist you in your spiritual endeavors. Keep up and you¹ll be kept up!!
