Guest guest
I am wondering how I can build up to this kriya? We tried it at the Japji course and even the trained musicians were barely squeaking it out for the last few sounds! I've been trying it at home...but in order to do it in an ascending scale, you need like a 2 octave range! ha ha! (of which I do not have! atleast in my usual state of consciousness!) I know the Indian scale is different from the Western major scale we use...I've been told it has tones between tones? So I am wondering if it's a matter of getting into the subtlety of tones (pitches) or is it just a matter of having the energy opened enough, so frankly, there "is" just no lack of breath or range in your voice? Ha ha! I have been practicing Ra ma Da Sa Sa Se So Hung in an ascending scale form for awhile and can manage that...but it falls within my normal singing range? Any help? Guest guest
Sat Nam I have had the intention of teaching this a number of times but it has not worked out that way, so I guess you are not alone. It is really easy once you get the idea of using tones with the whole body, not just the voice box. For instance, imagine each syllable at a different point on the spine and work your way up until hung is in the conch. Interestingly, singers have a hard time hitting that note. Roy Orbison was an example of somebody who could do it easily. Find the low note, find the high note, and then connect the dots. You usually also have to really modulate the prana, not trying too hard, not belting it out too much. You have to split the normal amount of pranas you use to hit a tone. It usually takes some practice, and some anti-practice because singers get really attached and comfortable with their range. I am going to try it again at a course I'm teaching later in August, so I'll let you know.
