Guest guest
Sat Nam Donald, I don't have any experience adapting Kundalini Yoga for someone with a spinal cord injury...but I'll just share a few thoughts that might apply. I have been in classes where someone wasn't able to do an exercise due to an injury and the teacher told them to just visualize doing it...and he noted afterwards that it was still effective. I've also taught classes where some of the participants came no where near being able to execute the postures correctly, due to restriction or weakness...and I have observed they still recieve some effect or benefit. I believe working strongly with the awareness, breath and presence is very key, interms of what you get out of your practice. Without these ingredients...your just executing an exercise..it's not yoga. So I think you could work with this? Are you in control of your breath? If so, you could look into Guru Charan's book "Breath Walk"...I have found the walking meditations can be practiced, without the walking and still be effective. It involves breathing patterns, chanting mantra, focus and hand mudra. So I would suggest the use of visualization...and of course you can practice meditation effectively. In the vein of creating a new relationship with your body...you may want to study the 10 bodies a bit (one of them being your physical body)...realizing that 1/10th of you is physical matter and the rest is energetic. Relating to all parts of you...seeing a bigger picture of your totality. Yogi Bhajan always says "keep Up and you will be kept up"....meaning simply do your best and the rest will be covered. May all blessings of Light, come your way... Sat Sangeet Kaur
