Sat Nam Maria,

How is it you have come to believe that Cobra pose is always to be

with Breath of Fire? Just curious. Whatever source you are using for

sets should be explicate enough to include this info. Sometimes,

however, we are working with second-hand notes and in this situation

just stick with either long deep breath or a long soft breath. Down the

road, you wouldn't be wrong to dabble just a tiny bit with Breath of

Fire once you've gotten to know yourself in relation to this practice.

Hi Dharam

So what's the deal about BOF with Cobra? I have found it very effective and

energizing. Are there any inherent dangers in this practice? Just wondering.

No inherent dangers., however if you have a Vatta imbalance (too much

Vatta), Cobra Pose, if the breath is not properly monitored and almost

all of the backbend postures tend to increase Vatta.

Vatta is the unstable level of Prana. If we can process Vatta, we will

have Prana. Following Cobra and the backbend postures with a forward

bend is often how sets are "engineered".

The worst thing that can happen to a person who over extends themself in

Cobra is some hyperextension of the vertebra in the lower back and maybe

some overstretching in the lower abdomen. This could exacerbate an

already existent hernia situation.

I like to do a full, nearly perfect Cobra and once I've found the

posture I often have to back off in order to do BOF. That's why I

suggested to feel yourself and listen to your body on this one. Pay

attention and if if feels more right to do LDB or a less vigorous BOF

instead of "full on" BOF, then................
