Guest guest
Sat Nam I'm trying to learn Japji for the yatra to India this year. I have several cds and a transliteration to work on. It so beautiful yet overwhelming to repeat! Does anyone have some wisdom to offer tht will help me to learn this? I'm also looking fo travel tips from anyone who's done this trip in the past. The technology of Kundalini yoga has made me whole and I feel very blessed to be a part of this trip and this group. Sat Nam! Wahe Guru! Guest guest
Hi Dev Dharam, Your saying Japji is "overwhelming to repeat!" is your biggest block. It is an unknown and you know how like when going somewhere for the first time it seems like such a long way, but then the second time you go it's really easy and short. For me learning Japji came really easy because I heard this great friend of mine (the same person, incidentally, who could make tofu taste like chicken and in so doing, was the first open to me the possibility of being a vegetarian) reciting it. That was it! Someone I know, and have hung out with, doing something [easily] I didn't know, but wanted to know. Somehow set it up so it doesn't seem daunting. Listen to a good recording, and the same one everyday, while reading/mumbling along with it. It's like training wheels. You keep rolling forward even if you loose your balance. Regarding your trip to India, travel real, real light because you're going to want buy stuff and bring it home. Also, if you want to have clothing made, we should talk. Bring your favorite fitting Bana or clothing so that you can leave it with the tailor. Tell them to allow for shrinkage in their sizing. When they use the measuring tape results are good. I haven't found a heat dryer, yet, in my travels so material there is ripe for shrinkage problems. When they use the measuring tape methods results are generally good. Also, bring your own elastic for waistbands. Elastic in India seems to lose it's life very quickly. Also, avoid raw vegetables.....eating only produce you can peel and cooked foods. Also, my rule of thumb is to not eat anywhere that doesn't have a clean bathroom. My reasoning being that if the employees have a clean place to go, then there is less of a chance of getting Delhi Belly. Contact me off list for more particulars. There are many things to do and experience. Ad Gurey Nameh, Jugad.............. Dharam DawnsStars wrote: > Sat Nam > I'm trying to learn Japji for the yatra to India this year. Guest guest
Sat Naam! Japa is the key! Repeat, repeat, practice, practice. Actually the thing that helps me most to learn it is the musical version. It is sung slow and in a catchy tune.. takes I think 45 minutes. After listening to this CD during yoga practice and while on the computer, I found myself singing full verses of Japji from memory. The one I have is Japji, Yoga of Sound by Mata Mandir Singh --You can find it on yogatech.com! ranjit >DawnsStars >Kundaliniyoga >Kundaliniyoga >Kundalini Yoga India Yatra/Japji >Tue, 23 Sep 2003 02:19:03 EDT > >Sat Nam >I'm trying to learn Japji for the yatra to India this year. Guest guest
Sat Nam Dev Dharam, I've been taking it one pauree at a time. Doing each one individually as a meditation. Reading it outloud to begin with 11 times then once i've done that for a few days I find I can begin to remember it in my head and begin chanting it with my eyes closed and get into the rhythm of it. So far it is working well...but have fallen in love with the two pauri's I have been practicing and haven't continued on to another one yet...but my intention is to make it through the whole thing eventually! ha ha ha! Guest guest
Sat Nam Dharam, Laughing real hard at Delhi belly. Thanks for the advice. I am thinking of taking some clothing that can be given away in India so I'll have more room to bring home goodies. I feel so very blessed to be able to make this journey. You are right about the mental Japji block. It's behind me now. We are all so much stronger than we know. Besides I'm sure I've already learned it in at least one of my past lives. I hear Yogi Bhajan's voice say "It's so easy! Can you believe it?" Humbly Reminded, Dev Dharam Kaur
