eating during yoga class

Hi,

I'm new to the group and to Kundalini yoga as well. I've taken one

class and cannot wait to go back for more.

My question is this. The yoga teacher in my class did a lot of

talking while we were doing the breathing exercises and various

poses. I found it distracting and a little annoying? Is this

typical of yoga classes? Do the instructors deliberately try to

distract you? I couldn't believe it when he pulled an apple out of

his bag and told us to go ahead with our breathing while he ate his

dinner. Does anyone have any thoughts on this.

Thank you,

Alana

some teachers will talk during class to help you "keep up" by

offering encouragement. I would also find constant chatter to be

distracting though.

And I feel that pulling the apple out and eating it was just plain

RUDE! The teacher's focus should be on the students - not on

themselves.

I was in a workshop once where the teacher pulled out an apple and began

chomping away, while the class was trying to practice SNR...I was in the throws

of emotional turmoil at that moment and I just remember thinking.."I can't

believe it! I'm out here having an emotional melt down and he's having a coffee

break???" Ha ha H ah ah!

I can laugh about it now..who knows maybe he was REALLY hungry? Maybe he was

making noise so that we would have something to "include" in our sensitive

space? Maybe he knew it would piss me off and bring the emotion I was trying to

release closer to the surface for me to let go of? Maybe he lacked common

sense? Who Knows...go back again and see what happens next time and notice what

effect it has on the class and what his behavior brings up in you in terms of a

reaction.

--- I don't know. Although sometimes challanging it is good practice

I believe to practice any internal art anywhere you are. Regardless

of external?( are you sure it is externel?!) distraction. Sounds like

a good teacher or a bad teacher depending on how you look at life

Sat Nam Alana,

Maybe you shoud ask your instructor what his intentions are. It could be

for your benefit. I know that it is suggested to make lots of noise while a

baby is sleeping so that they will be able to sleep and relax under any

circumstance. Maybe your instructor's trying to give you the same benefit.

But your instructor should probably let you know if this is the case so you

can move past the distraction.

Sat Nam,

You know I hate to say this but I do know a teacher who talks non stops

in her classes and has done so for years. She is not doing it for the

benefit of the class but because she has a need to be the center of

attention. Needless to say she doesn't retain serious students for long.

You might want to try another teacher whose style of teaching suits you

better. It's unfortunately true that a bad teacher (who can be

certified) can put a whole lot of people off.

Blessings,

Avtar
