Guest guest
I've read that Kundalini can cause some side effects that are unpleasant. One of which I believe I expereinced while meditating on raising kundalini. The uppder middle of my back muscles began to ache. I also take some meds and just started taking saw palmetto herb. The herb can effect the meds I take for panic disorder I know, and I can always stop them. Can medications interfere with kundalini work? Bill
Guest guest
Sat Naam, I don't know anything about the medications but I would like to know people's experiences with that too, in case of this coming up with any of my students. The sore back could just be from sitting. Doing the kriyas or even some Hatha yoga stretches will help you prepare the body for sitting more comfortably. All the Kundalini yoga kriyas are designed to prepare you for meditation, ultimately. There is a short energetic set in GRK's book Relax & Renew -- Exercise Series for Hips, thighs & Legs -- that helps you set your seat for meditation. The last exercise is great for loosening up the upper back too. I am sitting for meditation 31 minutes a day in sukhasana, easy pose, holding prayer mudra. My back starts hurting a bit and even my hands start to fall asleep! And I have practiced many long (painful!) hours of sitting. One aspect of meditation is to learn to withdrawal the senses and not get distracted by physical discomfort, just be able to observe it with a neutral mind and stay concentrated.
