Guest guest
Hello and Sat Nam, ...I have a student with very heavy legs in class. Performing stretch pose seems to be impossible because she cannot lift her legs....any modifications for stretch pose, without losing too much of the benefits? Thanks Linda Protect your identity with Mail AddressGuard http://antispam./whatsnewfree
Guest guest
Sat naam, See if she can lift one leg at a time. Also placing hands under the hips will support the pelvis at a tilt to help lighten the legs. Let me know if that works for her. There are other modifications too. ranjit >linda kirby <assortedbeings >Kundaliniyoga >Kundaliniyoga >Kundalini Yoga stretch pose >Thu, 13 Nov 2003 15:28:18 -0800 (PST) > >Hello and Sat Nam, > >..I have a student with very heavy legs in class. >Performing stretch pose seems to be impossible because >she cannot lift her legs....any modifications for >stretch pose, without losing too much of the benefits? > > >Thanks >Linda > > > >Protect your identity with Mail AddressGuard >http://antispam./whatsnewfree _______________ >From Beethoven to the Rolling Stones, your favorite music is always playing on MSN Radio Plus. Guest guest
Sat Nam, As you probably already know, stretch pose can be done with the hands under the buttocks, palms face down, to alleviate the strain on the lower back. I don't know whether this would help your student's leg problem. However, one thing that definitely would help would be to simply have your student put some pillows under her legs, so that her legs will automatically be in stretch pose position! Yes, she will still get all of the benefits of stretch pose from doing it this way! It is not the act of keeping ourselves up in the posture, but the posture itself, that achieves the effects. How you keep yourself up in the posture, whether it's with pillows, wires, props, or sheer will power, doesn't really matter. Many years ago, there was a woman who could not get herself into cobra pose. The Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan) told the woman's husband to build a wooden frame in the shape of her doing cobra pose, and that she should then fit herself into the frame. Yogis of old frequently used a wooden support on which to rest their arms while holding them in certain meditation postures. I have seen a painting of Guru Amar Das with such a support. God bless, S.S. Swami Dev Singh Khalsa jaapsahib
