Guest guest
Dear Simon, your problem is also known to me - living a hectic life, working, having a family, socializing and going out, having not always fixed daily schedules, travelling, changes and challenges - but that's life, esp. in our CIVILIZED world. And man, hey, I am living in Shanghai ;-) For me - as a spiritual being and KY-teacher - the secret is to keep up, start over and over again, even if I 'failed' with my daily routine for a couple of days. Most helpful for me is the understanding, that my yoga-practice is not just limited to the Amrit Vela or some secluded evening hours. Yoga is for me a part of my life, it is something I can remember and do ALL the time. Think of your own mind set, the food you take, exercises you could do, the way you talk to other people, even playing with the kids - everything is yoga and can serve you to improve your consciousness, health, happiness and all-over quality of life. You can do it basically everywhere, where you are. Just a few example: - Riding the subway: Close the eyes, try to meditate for a couple of minutes. - Sitting at the desk: try to sit specifically straight, concentrate on deep belly breathing. - Eating lunch: avoid meat, eat carefully and chew well. Drink lots of water every day, skip every fast food meal and eat fresh fruits (e.g. apples and bananas). - avoid elevators and walk the stairs - when bending forwards to tie the shoe laces: bend from the hips, knees straight, pull in navel point, exhale - voila - just performed another yoga exercise! (there is a great book - 'the 5-min-Yogi' . giving lots of small and nice exercise). - when making a break from work, just stretch out, make some side bends, shrug the shoulders, neck rolls (carefully) - try to control your breath when walking (have a look into the book 'Breathwalk' from YB) - avoid and limit listening to bad news, aggressive songs - enjoy some meditation music (our kids like them in the evening) - kick out the TV from home, better make a game with the family - do not complain about bad things, try to change them - you have no time for yoga at all? Just do a few sun salutations, or 3 min Sat Kriya followed by 7 min relaxation - mingle with people, who can give you positiveness, with whom you can laugh and enjoy living - BTW: 1 min of laughter can substitute half an hour of yoga ;-) - love yourself, make your self happy - only then you can give love to your family and others - break this cycle of feeling 'guilty' - do whatever you can do, whenever you can do - and little is always better than nothing. Be proud of every small achievement and remember: god and you, you and god are one! This list could go on..... So, dear Simon, you see, you are not alone! Keep up and do some small steps rather then big jumps. The benefits and changes will come! SAT NAM and blessings from Shanghai, Adarsh S.
