Guest guest
Hi. My name is Jean. I thought I'd just give you all a little about me and why I'm here since I'm new. I am 26 yrs. old(and I do mean I feeeeel old!) I am a stay-at-home mom to 5 children ages 7 to 3months. I have looked into yoga several times in my lifetime, but it always seemed so difficult to do or I didn't understand it. I just finished reading Kundalini Yoga: the flow of eternal power. I really want to receive many of the benefits of this type of yoga(flexibility in the spine, less sleep required, more energy, calmness, a feeling of strength in myself, physical well being, balance....) I have suffered much of my life with fatigue, severe mood swings, depression, inflexibility, poor circulation and back pain. Almost 2 years ago I was in a car accident in which I suffered a broken hip and pelvis which required surgery. I still have not regained balance in my body from that time. I am concerned however, that I will not receive all the benefits because I do not to all of the teachings or ideas of Kundalini yoga. I hold significantly different spiritual beiefs and some of the mantras seem to go directly against that(I am also not sure where I could chant at 5 am in my house and not wake somebody up!) So, if I don't chant(quite frankly I'm not sure how to pronounce most of it anyway and I can't read music worth a lick!)and I hold other views about creation and destiny can I still reap the benefits or will it take longer to see results? Just wondering if anyone else has some thoughts on this. Thanks for your help. I have dozens of other questions, but we'll start out with this one. All the Best, Jean
Guest guest
Hi Jean, I know exactly where you are coming from. The physical benefits of yoga in any form are worth it, regardless if you chant. I have three small children all born by c-section. My first two took at least a year to heal from, but my third took only 6 weeks, even though the doc said I had a massive amount of scar tissue. I literally felt no pain after 6 weeks. There was no itching on the surgical site either. I attribute my speedy recovery to yoga. My back pain is also gone when I practice at least once a week, but I go for more. Please give it a shot, before you discount it because of spiritual beliefs. As for chanting, do what feels comfortable. You can look to the archives for proper pronunciations. I cannot chant loud either. I started a meditation once and it freaked my kids out. They kept yelling "be quiet". Now, I just do whatever I can when I can. I found going to a class works best. I am able to find someone to watch them for an hour and a half each week. Blessings, Amy
Guest guest
If you go to the bottom of the KYtraining where there is a selection for CD'S videos and books, click on the CD;s and read what each mantra is about and listen to them. The correct pronunciation is in the music. no matter what you spiritual avenue, I'm sure there will be many that you can enjoy and chant without feeling you are betraying your own beliefs. I recommend reading about many different spiritual beliefs as they will lead you to the divine. believe it or not my 10 year old chants right along with me when a tune grabs him. Buy one that speaks to your heart. Susie Ft. Lauderdale Fla.
