Dear David,

Sat Nam! Your e-mail is inspiring to me! 16 years old and you are so in touch

with the light inside of you! Wonderful! Please take time also to be kind to

yourself, love yourself...give yourself permission. A few thoughts came to me

as I read your mail. Are you practicing? Your practice will carry you where

you are wanting to go. As we use the force of our will in Kundalini Yoga to

endure the kriya a purification takes place of accumulated impressions of who we

believe we are. Then through mantra the vibration opens us up to our true

essence and a sublime radiance. It is this true sense of self we seek. In

practice

you will become acquainted with the disciplined mind you seek. Diet and

fasting is a good way to get there but can be such a struggle to begin with. In

Ayurveda, yoga, aromatherapy, pratyahara and cleansing are recommended first.

Pratyahara is translated as withdrawal from distractions, such as the television

and video games you mention. The ego operating through the eye tries to keep

attention in the eye and make visual sensations the most important part of self

identity. Without proper control of the senses our minds become fragmented.

Pratyahara has two aspects, the second being right use of our senses, such as

listening to beautiful uplifting music, walks in nature, or gazing at a star

filled sky. Use the senses with attention rather than distraction; in other

words

use the senses to stay in the moment not to indulge the ego. This may work

better for you...a total fast to begin with is extremely difficult! Do you know

your dosha type? (if you don't I would be happy to help you with that) There

are certain Ayurvedic constitutions that do not do well physically or

emotionally with total fasting. I have a gentle cleanse on the website

www.skyoftheheartyoga.com and also some recipes that may be more gentle and a

more conducive

approach for you. All things come in due time if you are diligent in your

practice of Kundalini Yoga and gentle with yourself. It shouldn't be a

struggle...let the practice carry you! I wish you all the best on this blessed

path!

David may the pure light within guide your way on!

Rebecca
