Guest guest
I remember reading a great sounding post about dealing with sciatica (from a few years ago). Little did I know that I'd have a first-hand opportunity to try it out. I have been having a lot of pain in the right hamstring and the right buttock. I beleive it is the sicatic nerve that is causing the problem. I had a healing session yesterday and 4 chiropractic treatments over the course of the last 2 weeks, and so far its worsening. Maybe it gets worse before it gets better. Its constant discomfort, sitting causes more discomfort, driving quite uncomfortable, lying in bed mildly uncomfortable, depending on position. Any suggestions on dealing with it, with KY and otherwise? Also, I want to search the archives but don't know how to. Appreciate your help and want to say that this group is amazing in its support and depth. Thank you. Sat nam, Sheri
Guest guest
Sat nam AMWohlman, I would like to share some of my experience dealing to sciatica. I had this terrible problem for years and was getting worse and worse. Whenever I had it, I had to be taken home and could not move for days. Doctors used to give me drugs that made me feel dizzy and hurt my stomach. They told me to go swimming but my chiropractor told me that it was not would as my muscles would not get any stronger (they do not make any efforts in water). Then I started practicing yoga. It did not help at the beginning but after years I have to say that I have not sciatica at all. My teachers taught me some stretching exercices which I practice daily that have solved the problem. Of course, you also have to be careful with your diet and weight. I have also learnt in my healing classes that your liver has to do a lot with this problem. Your yoga teacher might be of great help as it happened to me if there is not another cause. Hope you feel better. Sat Nam Maryan SiteBuilder - Free web site building tool. Guest guest
I had this condition show up shortly after beginning Bikram Yoga. It was really quite excruciating but I just continued to do the Yoga every day and EVENTUALLY it just went away. Have you just started K Yoga...or changed anything else pertaining to your body. I think my body was just coming into alignment more and I was stretching things out and it had to resolve itself...I believe that it is becuase I kept going through the pain that it resolved... Guest guest
Sat Nam, dear Sciatica - sufferers, just a short note from the experience of one of my students: He had a terrible pinched sciatic nerve and could hardly walk upright. He thought of using a stick for walking - with the age of 35 years. He spent for one year a lot of money for doctors, chiropractics, acupuncture, massages, etc. - all did not help and solve his problem. We met occasionally for dinner and we talked about Yoga, lifestyle, body, soul, harmony and balance, etc. He decided to join the KY class and the guy started doing the Rishkish set (a very good set for opening the hips and to learn sitting properly), also he did the life-nerve stretching exercises, spinal flexes, sufi circles and cat stretches. In the beginning he hardly could reach his ankles. But he decided to give it a try and practiced - and practice at home is free of charge ;-) So he stretched and worked for about 6 month on a daily basis and got better and better. Finally he could reach his toes and walk normally. And at the end of last year we went together with our wives for an evening of ball room dancing - it was fantastic and we had soo much fun. Moral of the story - do not try to work on the symptoms, go to the causes. Sending you blessings and light, Adarsh P.S: This is not a medical advice, just think over how to approach physical problems...

Guest guest
Sat Naam There are many exercises for the sciatic nerve or "Life Nerve" that reoccur in Kundalini yoga sets. Check out the Kriya for Elevation for a series of life nerve stretches. There are many others, GRK has some great warmup sets in her manuals with life nerve stretches too. Forward bends & especially the spread-leg forward bend & side stretches (upavista konasana) are great for the sciatic nerve.
