Guest guest
Michelle, Only recently I started with practising Kundalini yoga and I have the same questions. I used to take about 8 hours of sleep and had the feeling that less sleep would harm my health. But as I got so interested in Kundaline and its background, so hungry to learn about it and do it, I started to get up at 6am and fall asleep at 00.30. I use the evening to study the Internet on Kundalini related topics and meditate before and after sleeping. I am surprised by the energy that I receive from this but also feel tired sometimes during the day. And, most surprisingly, I did not get ill during some months now and before I used to be ill each month a few days during wintertime (cold, sinusites etc). My personal idea is that my requirement for sleep depends on how much I try to be in control of things during the day, fighting the unwinnable wars. As I try and start to succeed in replacing control efforts by letting in flow and synchronicity in my life, I for sure feel less need for sleep and experience a more effective immune system. I am too very interested in other experiences on this subject. Sat Nam, Rene
Guest guest
Sat Naam About keeping track of time -- get yourself a nice little kitchen/egg timer from the drugstore. They may run anywhere from $4.99 - $12.99 depending on the features or brand. You only need the basics really. I have tried out many timers, and my personal favorite is the Radio Shack timer. It is a little more expensive, about $15-16, but it is the best one for teaching because all the buttons to set the time are silent. Many others you get in drugstores beep with every push of the button -- no biggie for home practice but distracting in a class. Getting a timer for your yoga practice feels good! Doesn't it?! It makes it... official... in a way -- like getting the tools of your trade. Then you learn how to use them in the way that best serves you as you do the work. You know?!
