Sat Nam! There's a beautiful book I have used to teach kids: Fly Like A

Butterfly by Shakta Kaur Khalsa.

*Moderators Note: This book may be available at www.yogatech.com

I have taught yoga to 4-6 year old kids.

I have learned that the techer needs to keep eye contact with the kids

even when chanting or singing. Kids usually don't close their eyes very

long and they need to know you are connected to them through your eyes.

So when I tune in with them I keep my eyes open and when I sing the Sun

Shine song at the end I keep my eyes open and smile at each of them.

Use simple words. Kids doing karate bow to the masters without any

problems. In yoga we chant to the masters.

In between, I either make up a story around different postures. Say, a

walk in the jungle and you find all the animals and you can ask them what

other animals you have left out and if they'd like to teach it to the

other kids. I find a theme for each class: like "what is power?": Is a

butterfly powerful? Yes yet fragile... What is kindness? Even: what is

awareness? You can say: Imagine being in school and other kids want you to

join them in making fun of another kid. How do you know whether to do it

or not? Is there something inside of you telling you what is the choice

you would like to make? And then have the kids voice their different

ideas. It's not so much about what's right and wrong? More about noticing

and hearing the inner guiding voice. There are beautiful ideas kids can

easily integrate.

I also pay attention to the energy of the kids: some want to teach others

and some want to hide, some can't even say their name aloud to the other

kids, but don't mind showing an animal posture to the other kids. So I

look for ways for everyone to shine.

I have tried pairing up children for exercises to do together. That can be

tricky. Some kids easily do this and others don't feel comfortable holding

hands with other kids. So sometimes I have paired up with such kids.

I hope this helps!

Blessings,

Dear Gavriella

KY is a beautiful way of live. If you can integrate all of your family

with it, it can be a tremendous oportunitie to brind balance and

happiness in you home.

Kids love games, so all of the good Ky classes and books you may found

follow this mainly direction.

A good KY book is this:

Fly Like A Butterfly: Yoga for Children
