Guest guest
Thank you to everyone in this newsgroup for the messages of encouragement and positive inspiration. It's good to be linked to so many people who are pursuing a positive spiritual life. My life is going through a period of transition that includes abandoning limiting (and even harmful) beliefs and thought patterns as well as searching for the right place to live, a place that will allow me to grow spiritually and personally. I welcome any insights about how we find the best place for us, how we know when and where we are led to live. Are there any spiritual guidelines that are helpful in figuring this out? Thanks for any ideas and insights. Margaret
Guest guest
I truly believe that the best place for us is wherever we are. When we can learn to be peaceful and happy wherever we are and in whatever circumstances we find ourselves, we've made so much progress. And it guards against feeling trapped in horrid circumstances. Many Holocaust victims, slaves, wrongly accused people in prison, etc., had or have to do that. And recognize that spiritual fulfillment {all of life really} is a journey. We should enjoy the journey rather than focus on the destination. That being said, I think the ideal is something to work on and living in a place that you find spiritually satisfying is a good thing to elevate you. I'm not sure how to find that. So, no, I can't help you. :0P Good luck on your quest and enjoy the ride!!! Brenda > >Margaret T. Guest guest
Dear Margaret, It is a good thing that you are looking at spiritual development. Once your mind is calm the place shall come to you automatically. We all have our answers withinh us , its just that we have to tune with our inner selves and then things are fine. Guest guest
Sat Nam, The thought that crosses my mind is that, every place is the "right" place. The harder and more resistant the places that we live in seem to be... the greater the potential for growth in those enviroments is....not just for ourselves, but for everyone living in that enviroment. In my experience as I let go of my limitations in thought...my enviroments reflect that change. Often I think the biggest change is simply a change in perspective....and as your thoughts change, so do your perspectives. My point is that I don't think the "where" we live, is as important as the "how" we live. Spiritual growth happens exactly where you are at...there is no place one needs to go, in order to find it. Finding places of refuge in the light is important, when you live in places that lack atmospheres of strong support of spiritual growth....having a sat sang to come together with. Although I don't live in a place with a strong spiritual community (although I see this changing before my eyes)...I have been blessed to be in the present of a teacher who embodies the light.... and in my opinion, his light alone is bright enough to light the entire city...so in the beginning this is very much where I saught out refuge in the light...by taking his classes and simply sitting in his presence and recieving that blessing. I find for myself, I sojourn alot. I travel, so that I can be in the presence of those who have mastered what it is I am trying to embody and also to find a sense of community.....and then after I have soaked it up and I am resonating with it (embodying it)....I bring it back into my community, so that we can start to embody that as a community. We do need to make connections with other spiritually minded people...we all have something to share...but then we also need to bring what we learn and then understand through experience, back into our communities where we sense a lack...so that they too can share in the experience and be uplifted. If you are just in the beginning of seeking a spiritual path...then you may very well need to be around a spiritual community in order to "catch" it...because spirituality is contagious and we catch it from those who embody it. So in trying to decide where to from here? I would weigh where I am at? Do I need more teachings? Do I need to recieve the Darshan of more enlightened people? Or is where I am at where I need to be and I need to begin to practice and embody and live my practice more (walk my talk)? A few thoughts from the peanut gallery! Ha ha! Guest guest
Hi Margaret In the introduction to "Lifting the Veil" Gurunam makes the following points: "It is time for us to realize that we are the result of spiritual processes. We should not only become familiar with the laws of nature, but also restore ourselves to our rightful place in the Universe. Had these principles been understood and followed, humanity might have avoided much unnecessary suffering." Is this what you are alluding to? Lifting the Veil, along with other books by Gurunam, can be found at www.yogatech.com Sat Nam! Gordon - Margaret T.
