Guest guest
Hi, I assume you're doing pranayama. Some things that I do to get my nostrils open: Use your fingers to put gentle pressure on the bridge of the nose, on the side that is clogged. This works only for minor problems, not for true congestion. Menthol will open up your sinuses as well and is available usually as a cold remedy (vapor-rub). Just a tiny dab under the nose will work wonders. Sometimes I also just try to do the pranayama without working the left/right sides.. just breath through the nostril that works. As you do this, when you *should* be using the side that is clogged, imagine the white light going down that side of the spine on the inhale(or up on the exhale). I've found that after a few breaths like this, some blockage usually opens up. There is also a mudra for this problem, which works for me when I apply it with sincerity. It's called the "large head mudra", I don't remember the sanskrit name. It is a realatively simple mudra, I'll attempt to describe: Connect the tips of the index and middle finger to the thumb. The ring finger should curl down and tuck the fingernail under the meaty part of your thumb. Stick the pinky finger out as straight as possible. It is difficult to get the pinky straight at first, as you work with it this becomes easier. Do the mudra with both hands, and if you want, you can bring them together and put the pinky tips together in such a way so you can put gentle pressure on them in order to straighten them out.. gentle pressure!! don't break your finger! This mudra is specifically geared toward congestion and sinus problems, which is said to be a result of the accumulation of some energies or blockages of which I am not educated enough to comment on. Hope that helps.. if anyone else has tricks for opening nostrils, I'd love to hear them.. this is a common problem! Guest guest
Hi R-Bahar: I have a similar problem. What I do before starting alternate breathing is to use a saline solution spray. This is not like Afrin, but just a saline solution in distilled water. You can get a spray bottle from a pharmacy. I should be less than $2.00 for a small bottle. After spraying both nostrals 5 or 6 times, blow your nose. You may have to do it twice. Then start the alternate breathing. It will probably still be a little stuffed up, but will loosen quickly as you continue the breathing. If that doesn't work, then after you do the above, do the fire breath for a few minutes. Hope this helps you, Rick Saxton
