Guest guest
Sat Nam mvghm, I am new to Kundalini yoga, having practiced regularly for about 9 months now, but have practiced hatha yoga for 20 years. I cannot answer your question as to 'what it means to blow out one's navel center' but if you have to ask, I suspect that you have never experienced any severe menstrual problems. If this is the case, count your blessings and be assured that the warnings you have heard are for your own good. I have heard that one should not do inverted poses during menstruation because it might reverse the menstrual flow. Reversed menstrual flow is one of the suspected causes of endometriosis, an extremely painful condition that if untreated, can lead to infertility. In addition to avoiding breath of fire, most teachers advise women to avoid strenuous standing postures on heavy flow days. It is really a good idea to relax and not over exert yourself on these days. Practice of asanas for relaxation are commonly recommended. If you feel energetic during menstruation then you can try following your regular routine minus the proscribed practices. Walking outside in the fresh air is also really good for you. 'A Woman's Book of Yoga', by Machelle Seibel and Hari Kaur Khalsa has kundalini yoga asanas that address women's issues and is the best and closest source of information I have seen to what you seek. You can get it many places, including yogatech.com. I have looked, but haven't found any books or videos that have specific Kundalini yoga sets recommended for practice during this time. It is unfortunate that we are still in the dark ages when it comes to women's health. Perhaps the next generation of yoginis will make great progress. I know I'm working on it. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Sat Nam Imont123, Your answer has been very helpful to me and most appreciated, and your good advice here, will be adhered to. Thank you so much! During my cycle, my practice slows down quite a bit, and I do more meditating. PS--I'm not sure if you can answer this one, and maybe it's something for the research file relating to womens health concerns. It's the first two days after my cycle where I feel a bit wiped, and really need to push myself back into my workouts. If you or anyone else out there have any thoughts on this one, I'd love to hear them. Blessings to you Imont, Peace & Light, Monika
Guest guest
Dear Monika, May be you can use some nutritious additions in your diet while your menses are on and till two to three days afer it's over. Personally, I increase the intake of foods with carbohydrates and sweet content. Carbohydrates burn fast and release energy quickly. This helps in lessening that drained out feeling during and after menses. try figuring out what works for you. Thanks Sat Nam Preeti Finance Tax Center - File online.
