I was after information on Kirya's to do when you are menstrating.

Also what are peoples favorite kirya's to get you started in the morning?

Is it necessary to have a cold shower every morning before you start?

Hi Debi,

You asked what Kriya's should one do when they are

on their cycle...

I think it would be easier to explain which one's have

been recommended not to do such as any inverted poses

(like plow pose or shoulder stand)

or poses that work on the naval center (Grinder, Root

lock, sat kriya, breath of fire)etc...

In the book "Kundalini Yoga, the Flow of Eternal

Power" by Shatki Parwha Kaur Khalsa...her

recommendations are:(& I qoute); "during the heaviest

part of your monthly menstration, avoid strenuous

yoga. In particular do not do the following:

Bow Pose, Breath of Fire, Camel Pose, Locust Pose,

Root Lock, Sat Kriya, Shoulder Stand or any inverted

posture, Strenous Leg Lifts."

Each person is different & you can do what you are

comfortable with during your cycle,if you are

comfortable & not bothered by fatigue etc...continue

on with your regular routines (you may consider not

overdoing it & being gentle with yourself)& following

some of the guidelines above.... For me, this is a

time when I give myself permission to be really gentle

with myself, in my morning Sadhana during my moon, I

get up & I have a routine of warmups & stretches & I

will usually rest a little longer during my relax

times...I have some Kriyas that I like to work with

such as Kirtan Kriya,I will also spend time doing my

chanting ( I start with long Eck Ong Kar) & meditation

such as "healing meditation"with the mantra Ra Ma Da

Sa Sa Say So Hung,& another one I love is "Special

healing meditation"with the mantra "Guru Guru Wa He

Guru Guru Ram Das Guru" both are very gentle & really

beautiful & I relax in corpse pose some more, & I love

being in quiet meditaion too... & I spend alot of time

reading & relaxing & going inward & reflecting...ahh

it feels good! For me this is a nice time during my

moon to spend rejuvinating my body, mind & soul...do

what you are comfortable with...oh & I should mention

that you "do not" take a cold shower during your

menses...

There is a beautiful book out called "Yoga for Women"

by Shatka Kaur Khalsa

she has a website: www.shaktakhalsa.com

Also if you want meditations & Kriyas...

"Relax & Renew" & "Transitions to a heart-centered

world" both by Gururattan Kaur Khalsa, are absotutely

wonderful! They are filled with lot's & lot's & lot's

of meditations & Kriyas & "lot's more" info...

I hope this helps answer some of your questions Debi,I

noticed you had posted this a couple of times so I

thought I'd give it a try...

many blessings, Sat Nam Jiwan Shatki
