Hi all,

What is the difference between "Earnestness" and "Desire"? Lord Buddha has said

that even the desire to attain enlightenment is a hindrance to enlightenment.

But we all know that we should practice earnestly for our spiritual development.

How can there be earnestness without desire? It is so contradictory. Is'nt it?

How will I know which one of the above I have and how can I overcome or use them

properly?

Regards,

Priya Babu.

To be earnest means to be intensely serious or to be determined; whereas to

be desirous is to be wishful or hopeful.

The difference seems to be that the fomer is about actively taking

responsibility for one's spiritual development as opposed to passively

desiring enlightenment.
