Guest guest
Cold Showers Sat Nam Everybody, I live in Melbourne, Australia and it has been extremely cold in the morning. I can't bear to have a cold shower. On odd mornings I have been splashing my face and washing my feet in the cold water. What are your thoughts on this? How do you hope if you live in a cold area? Much Love Siri Ram Kaur Dear Siri Ram Kaur: You needn't love cold showers to practice a sadhana. But just be aware that the cold shower does have a yogic function that will improve your health and enhance your practice. The progress that it helps you to make will have to be achieved one way or the other in order for you to get to the space of higher consciousness you are seeking. Basically it causes the warm blood to rush to the surface of your skin thus flushing out toxins that might have accumulated there during a night's sleep. Your strong breath in reaction to the cold also flushes toxins from the bloodstream through the lungs. That said: try this, start off with a regular warm shower you are used to. End up with a cool rinse. Don't turn off the hot water completely, but do turn it down. This is almost but not really as good. As you do this over a period of time, increase the time on the cool rinse and increase the portion of cold water in the mix. You can get used to this. I try to be sure that certain parts of my body get direct cold water: 3rd eye point, chin, heart center navel center, the spine, inside of elbows and knees, wrists, palms and soles of the feet. These are where the meridians are especially close to the surface and benefit from stimulation. Honestly, after a time you will enjoy! Any shower at 5 a.m. hot, warm or cold would awaken my wife. It's a courtesy issue I suppose. Felixe
Guest guest
Dear Felixe: That's kind of you! What I have done in situations like that is use cold water from the sink on a wash cloth and put the cloth on my neck, my chest, key places to actually get my body some reaction to the cold.
