Re: Ishnaan - Cold Showers

I am curious - why should one not wash one's hair

in cold water? I

have very long hair and have been getting used to

washing it in the

cold shower, though mine aren't as cold as they

probably should be

because there is a temperature lock on it at 77

degrees (which I am

trying to remove).

Thanks!

Sat Nam, here's a quote from Yogi Bhajan about hair.

He doesn't say directly not to shower in cold water

but ... "The most sensitive area of ether in your body

is the hair on your head. Those fibers should be cared

for. They should be combed and oiled so they are soft,

silky and act as antennae for that area. It is your

subtlety and clarity in your mind."

What do you all think?

Sat Naam,

I was taught that cold water should not hit the crown of the head. This is

the gate where excess heat can escape, so just let it without shocking it

with a temperature change. And hey, it is challenging enough to get your

limbs in the cold water, why put your brain through that! HA HA!

However my personal experience is that my hair does like a rinse of cold

water sometimes, just like my body. I try to make sure it does not hit the

crown, or any of the scalp if possible, just let it run down the length/ends

of your hair beyond the roots. It can be refreshing. Anyone else do this,

too?

I always finish my cold showers, or any shower, with a cold rinse of the

feet. As long as I can stand! It is the next best thing to a hands-on foot

massage.

Happy Shower!

ranjit k.
