Guest guest
Sat Nam John! Anuloma Viloma Pranayam -Alternate Nostril Breathing- is a good one for clearing the channels for kundalini. All mantra ( which translates to mean protection ) is powerful but if you receive mantra in which the mantra was used for awakening in the lineage it is viewed more as an initiation (diksha) for K awakening. If the kundalini is to be awakened by means of a mantra then it is essential that the guru gives consciousness or ``chaitanya'' to the mantra. This consciousness can be viewed as the cit-shakti-kundalini. Through repetition of the mantra the cit-shakti-kundalini of the mantra resonates with the cit-shakti-kundalini of the student and in this way the student's kundalini is awakened. So any mantra that Yogi Bhajan has given will have chaitanya. Blessings, Rebecca
Guest guest
Hi! I only just recently discovered Kundalini Yoga. I started the on-line course, but I wasn't getting very far with that, so I ordered Mantra Girl's beginner's video. I've been using it about every other day for 2 weeks now. I can't even begin to express how much I love it! The only drawback is that I have no one to help me with some questions I have. So here goes . . . First, I have a lot of trouble coordinating breathing so my belly moves in and out with my breath, with the movements. Is it more important to be moving or breathing correctly? Sometimes I have to slow down or stop to recoordinate myself. I find myself either extending my belly as I exhale OR I'll be doing it right and stop because I suddenly think that I am not. I guess that breathing that way just feels strange to me. Most of the time I can't do the movements as fast or as long as Mantra Girl. Is it better to do the motion the right amount of time, but slowly? Or would it be better to keep up the pace for a shorter amount of time, and gradually build up? One motion I have terrible trouble with is the one where you swing your arms back and forth and look at the space between your palms when your hands are in front of you. I have a hard time cooridinating my breathing, arm movements, and opening and closing my eyes. But once I get that all together, I can only do the movement for a short time before my shoulders and upper arms start to ache. Is it okay to just do the movement until it starts to hurt and then stop, and try to gradually build that up? I had a c-section several years ago and they cut my muscles from my navel down. At the time the dr's warned me that I would never achieve perfect muscle tone in that area again after it was cut like that. So I am having a lot of trouble doing the breath of fire, especially in the cat/cow. So I wonder if I should just do the position/breathing even if I can't make my belly move in that position? Or should I skip it until I can get better control over those muscles? Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated. If I need to do this differently I'd like to know now before get too used to doing it wrong, and if going slowly and/or stopping if it's too much is okay, then it would reassure me to know that. Thanks! Mary
Guest guest
Dear John, > I am seeking your advice. For a relatively new (but committed) meditator, is there ONE mantra and/or ONE breathing exercise which can best kick-start the process of awakening Kundalini energy ? Kindest Regards - - Australia. Some paths use only mantra and breath to raise the Kundalini and this is possible. But Yogi Bhajan has shared the ancient technology of KY so that the whole body is aligned to prepare for a shift in consciousness. The nervous system needs to be strong to hold the high voltage of energy. The Kundalini sets on pages 28-31 in Sexuality and Spirituality will definitely give you a jump start. Learn and practice with the bhandas (there is a free on line lesson of this.) Also practice Sat Kryia for 11 minutes every day. This is in S and S too. Cultivate awareness with every breath. Guest guest
Dear Mary, Relax. Do one movement at a time with the breath. It is fine to slow down the pace. Your natural pace can be slower than the DVD. Do what you can do comfortably and then stop and rest. Be aware, but not controlling. Every day you will find it easier to coordinate the breath with the movements. That is inhale with a movement and exhale. But Breath of fire is not coordinated with each movement. For Breath of fire, try breathing from the navel center and with the diaphram, i.e. higher up. If you get too low in the belly then the breath cannot be short and stacatto. A few more comments below. > First, I have a lot of trouble coordinating breathing so my belly moves in and out with my breath, with the movements. I find myself either extending my belly as I exhale OR I'll be doing it right and stop because I suddenly think that I am not. * Thinking gets you in trouble. Feel. I guess that breathing that way just feels strange to me. * You will get used to it over time. It takes us all awhile to get used to it. > Most of the time I can't do the movements as fast or as long as Mantra Girl. * Work up to our own capacity. Is it better to do the motion the right amount of time, but slowly? * That would be fine. Or would it be better to keep up the pace for a shorter amount of time, and gradually build up? * Either way. Don't over exert or stress yourself. Keep these to ideas in mind -- STIMULATION AND ACTIVATION. These goals can be achieved very gently. One step and movment at a time. This isn't boot camp. Its consciousness training so life can be more complete and harmonious. The attitude you bring to your practice will influence the attitude you take with your during the day. then it would reassure me to know that. * Be reassured. You are doing great. * Be sure to rest at the end and enjoy your expanded state of awareness. It is so comforting to be more aware, aware and alive. Guest guest
Gururattan Kaur, Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my questions. I know I was sort of rambling, and I think that is one of the pitfalls of learning something from a video rather than a class - there is no feedback. I feel so much better to know that if I feel like going slow I can, or if I feel like going fast until I can't do it anymore and then stopping is okay too. Sometimes I feel differently from one day to another. But you are right, I am noticing that I am getting better at it every time I do the workout! It is wonderful and I really love it! I did have a kind of strange experience last time tho, but I will make that another post.
