Guest guest
Dear all, I read once about someone doing the 84 steps at Goindwal reciting Japji Sahib on each step. I would like to do this sometime next year and was wondering if anyone could advise me on how to prepare for this. I did try to find more information in the archives but could not find any advice on this. All I can think of at the moment is to learn the Poem (Japji Sahib) off by heart. Many thanks Satnam Kaur
Guest guest
Satnam Kaur, Goindwal is such a beautiful place. I'd be happy to help prepare you for the steps at Goindwal. I did them last year and a little preperation goes a long way. The main problem is that you'll stay wet and have to keep warm. Bring an emergency blanket, the silver plastic kind. It's essential. I wore a really light, 1/2 mill.short, sleeveless wet suit which also helped. I didn't know Japji so I carried an mp3 player with headphones in a plastic bag and a laminated copy of Japji. Bring a few snacks and a drink. Once you start try not to take a break until you absolutely have to. The yogi tea and langer will call out to you but stay focused. Utilize the night hours because there are less people. If you decide to sleep it would be better to do so in the day. Bring warm dry blankets to put in your room and Earplugs. There will be many people who just go down the stairs to dip and leave. They are very curious and will stop to stare or try to talk to you. Just send them love in a smile and keep up.The people were actually my favorite part. They express such gratitude for even a simple jesture from you. On the 84th step, three school girls wanted a picture with me so I posed with them. I then had them take a picture of us with my digital. They were so blown away to see the instant picture. I also allowed them to listen to my version of Japji. The girls said it was "snappy" I have those pictures and more info if you wish to call me. I'm just not sure how to give you my number privately. Will you be at Solstice? Blessings, Dev Dharam Kaur (Dawn)
