Guest guest
Hi, I am new to Yoga and kundalini Yoga. I was just wondering about mantras. Though I can understand that they are very useful and powerful in calming and focusing the mind I don't entirely understand why it is important what is said. I am being very respectful in my enquiry please understand. If the actual content of the words and the meanings they convey are important, isnt this suggesting a rather superstitious, magical understanding of the relationship between words and what they denote. Maybe it even suggests that we are in our mantras are communicating with energies which it seems will only respond to and visit us if we unlock them with the correct 'key'. Of course, if on the other hand mantras are to considered for their rhythmic or melodic qualities alone then I can more easily understand how some could be superior than others for serving some particular purpose. Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome. Craig <tasdevil wrote: Hi. Below is a mantra/meditation to bring white light into your aura. I wrote it down during a class, but got confused as to the number of gurus in the chant. If some could clarify/confirm/correct the words for me if you are familiar with this one that would be great! I have a lot of kundalini books but couldnt find it in any. - thanks!
Guest guest
I will give you my experience. When the mantra is spoken aloud, its the vibratory affects of the sounds resonaiting through the head or whatever part of the body that's important. THe theory is that everything in the universe is made of sound currents. So by saying the mantras aloud, you are tuning into those currents (something like that anyway). Also, placement of the tongue during these mantras can trigger meridians (e.g. top of the mouth behind the teeth). In this respect, it's not the meaning that matters, its the sounds of the mantra. It is also written in the ancient sutras that you need to meditate on something pure, so you become more "pure". If you dont focus on something pure, the mind becomes scattered and it may enhance negative qualities within you. A lot of public speakers in the business world talk about focus on something and you will get it (e.g. earl nightingale, etc.). This ties in here. hope that helps craig >I am new to Yoga and kundalini Yoga.
