Guest guest
My advice would be this: The ego is not evil per se. It can be abused though. Is it a bad thing to be proud because you achieved a lofty goal? Is it wrong to feel pride because you helped a bunch of people? I don't think so. There is a clear difference between this feeling of ego and say, for example, "looking down" on people who you have bested, or boasting in an arrogant manner about how you are better than someone else. The ego was no accident: it occurred and happened in nature because it helps people to keep momentum in their lives when they have done something admirable. So many people bandy about the idea that the ego is something that needs to be removed like a tumor. I think that the real message of the mystics is that it is something that you shouldn't cling to. Of course, most mystics, once they realize Nirvana/The One, (insert word here), would agree that the ego is ultimately part of the grand illusion. -Crow
Guest guest
SAT NAM, As I advance in my KY pratice I notice that the situations which would give me anxiety or stress have changed to situations which bring up ego and anger in me, how amazing! as I believe I am stronger now and can handle stress they have taken a new route. Ego is kind off odd because it makes me feel strong and proud and hard to let go but I want to know of a way to be humble and not get angry/proud to what I am good at. How can I achieve that? Thanks Akkama
Guest guest
Sat Nam Akkama, I would say that the key to working with pride is simply, to remember humility in the same breath. Allow yourself to experience the enjoyment that arises with a job well done etc, but then in the next breath realize that all blessings flow from "The One".....and "the One" flows in everybody ........so what we would consider our personal victories, if we looked back on the chain of events leading up to them, we would see that we had an awful lot of help along the way!! ha ha! ......and we progress on our spiritual path because people have helped us along the way.....we've all had teachers and guides...nobody has done it on their own...so when you look at it that way, none of our victories are really that personal at all....they are shared with many...so personal pride almost seems obsolete in this case....although I would make a distinction between "enjoying" what you have sown in your life and taking some kind of proud position that serves the ego and esteem in some way that isn't Soul promoting. Ego is meant to serve the Soul. It needs to be trained/conditioned to fall in line with the Soul's desires and to promote those desires....which will bring growth and fulfillment in your life. I have had a lot of experience with ego and pride in my life....in my experience the remembrance of humility, devotion and a loving, grateful attidude are key in working with pride. Guest guest
Wonderful as always. Thanks SAT Sangeet and others. One other thing was I feel pride/proud in other tasks mostly and I see that when I am showing or projecting too much of it then I end up in a situtaion which brings me back to earth very soon. So its a ride.. but I will try to follow the suggested method so that I could keep myself humble and not having to ride this wave.
