Guest guest
Kundalini is the force of your own soul "inviting" you to become aware of and relate to your deep self. Kundalini yoga is the yoga of awareness. To some, awareness is dangerous. To a person who is in really deep denial about their life, awareness can be dangerous. ("Denial" is not a river in Egypt!) You will find people who have practiced some kind of Kundalini yoga, other than that taught by Yogi Bhajan, and who end up blowing their own minds and now they want to blame something outside themselves. These same people call it "K". That is they have moved all of their lower chakra (1st survival issues and 2nd chakra sexual angst) into their walking day awareness with no understanding of the process. They really need some good therapy at this point (I suggest a body centered therapy. check out http://www.thepositivemind.com/HTML/intensefeelingarticle.html ). What helps in having a beautiful, organic Kundalini yoga experience is having a love of and a trust in your teacher. This is actually an essential ingredient in the beginning if you are to study with another person. It is also essential to tune in with the ADI Mantra. Once your practice is established and you are walking on your path it doesn't matter what your teacher does or doesn't do, you will relate the G.O.D. within them. Kundalini has been defined as meaning "coil of the hair of the beloved". That's something to think about. Suky, do you live near a certified (or at least very experienced and realized) Kundalini teacher? Whether you do or not, there is a lot of good info and a very unique online course at kundalini yoga written by Gururattan Kaur, PHD You are in the right place. Stick around. Guest guest
Sat Nam Suky, first of all - relax ;-) Just think over of the following: We yogis / yoginis are in no way lunatics or eager to commit suicide on an elaborate way. What should be said is the following: Kundalini Yoga is POWERFUL - you realize it very soon after doing exercises like Sat Kriya, stretch pose or breath of fire. Kundalini Yoga is 'a little bit more' than just stretching and bending - KY works on much more levels of your existence. KY has especially lots of benefits and influence on your glandular system and this could be harmful for persons 'poisoning' their body with drugs, alcohol or tablets, pills and whatsoever. Therefore not doing appropriate exercises, missing warm ups and tuning in or mixing kriyas, yoga styles etc could have a negative impact. So it is best to have a real 'human' teacher around you, who could guide you through the lessons and exercises. Studying at home with only DVD and books is better than nothing, but you are missing the feedback and corrections of a teacher as well as the group energy of a 'real' yoga-class. KY done correctly (means tuning in with the Adi-Mantra, doing some warm-ups, doing a Kriya, relaxation, meditation, chanting a mantra, tuning out) as taught by Yogi Bhajan is not dangerous at all - but the positive effects are numerous. Therefore dive into the world of KY, look for a teacher, take it easy and enjoy it! Sending blessings, peace and light from Shanghai, Adarsh S.
