Guest guest
Sat Naam Discipline... aaaahhh... like a constant rehearsal for your next scene in the complex and contradictory play of the Gods, Lela. But you've committed to taking on the part for the duration of the production, and are accountable to the cast -- without an understudy! What if you miss a cue? Fall ill? Botch a line? The show must go on! What is it that Yogi Bhajan says about you and your discipline --- Something like "...all you have in this life is you and your discipline. It is your only friend..." (Sat Nam Kaur, if you are out there, can you post that quote please... !) After a lifetime of fighting with discipline, we are finally making friends. It seems like that has mostly happened through too many attempts at too much and giving up too soon! This taught me to be honest and realistic with myself and set only the goals which are important enough to me to prioritize, as well as be worth my efforts. Doing work that I really want to do, not just the stuff I feel like I SHOULD do. Remembering to be patient and practical about what I am capable of! Committing to what I know I am ready for and can reasonably accomplish at this point in my life & yoga practice. Saving the rest for a later date when I am better prepared. Someday I will be ready to do the 31-minute, 120 sadhana my teacher gave me years ago. But only yesterday did I finally accomplish a 11-minute, 40 day meditation that I started over and over and over again and again during that time. The gifts of Yoga will inspire your commitment to it. Commitment delivers you to the source of the strength for discipline. Faith in the practice will help you keep up with it. Keeping up will inspire faith in yourself. Faith in yourself is your key to making friends with your discipline. Your true self is a natural disciple.
