Stomach pumping movements in breath

Hi everyone;

Over the short time I have been doing KY I have

noticed that there

are a lot of exercises that require the pumping of

stomach in and out

while doing breath retention. Could someone give me a

detailed answer

as to why this is so important?? It brings up a lot of

different

things, literally, but I can only conjecture as to

what is going on.

If possible I would like to here about the physical,

emotional and

spiritual aspects of doing these movements.

I look forward to your replies.

Regards

J. Frank

Dear J: The short answer according to Yogi Bhajan is

that "All yoga starts at the navel point." Briefly,

the purpose of yoga is to make the transition from the

navel point to the heart center. It is a short

distance physically but a long one in the process of

attainment. Specifically, the pumping while suspending

the breath (both in and out)elevates that energy which

you build through the exercise and then "send" upward.

It's a process both enjoyable and difficult. The

experience is the experience, the path is the progress

and as the poet said, "every distance is not near."

For some its short for others it takes a while,

whoever persists, wins.

Regards.
