Guest guest
Sat Nam, Kathleen, I celebrate the moon cycle by doing moon salutations every night during the course of the moon cycle ,from the new moon to the full moon . Sun salutations are a part of my morning Sadhana . I can not do any yoga except sun salutation ,mantra and meditations during the first four days of my cycle , I have noticed over the years my cycle will stop completely no matter what kriya I do . Cold showers are out of the question for that time too . In Shakta Kaur Khalsa book Yoga for Women she has a few poses for women to do during their cycles , they are 1.The folded butterfly 2. Extended child's pose , for reproductive health she has the cobra and Plow not to be practice during your cycle . On page 117 there is a meditation to balance the menstrual cycle . It is a SA TA NA MA meditation . It is just like Kritin (spelling) kriya with a slight twist to it . There is no mention of where the eyes are focused , I would assume the focus would be at the third eye . 1- Sit in easy pose with your hands resting on your knees , palms facing upward .. You will be breaking the inhalation into four equal parts . Each part is a short sniff and you will feel your navel press slightly inward on each of the sniffs if you are practicing it correctly . On each sniff press your thumb and one of your fingers as follows: 1-On the first sniff , press your thumb and first finger as you meditate on the first sound SA . 2- On the second sniff, press the thumb and second finger as you meditate on the second sound TA . 3- On the third sniff , press the thumb and third finger as you meditate on the third sound NA . 4- On the forth sniff , press the thumb and fourth finger as you meditate on the fourth sound MA . Than exhale in one long stroke . Continue with the four part inhalation , meditating on SA TA NA MA . The length of time for this meditation may be increased by one minute daily , up to seven minutes , than practice for a week or more at seven minutes , than increase again by a minute per day . The maximum time for this powerful meditation is 31 minutes . I guess you could start with 3 minutes and work you way up , any suggestions on a starting time ?
