Sat Nam Sue,

yes, your teacher is right, and no your teacher is not right :-)

The main point is, that the physical development of children is not yet

finished and that the central nerves and glandular system is not yet able

to cope with the 'power' of KY - esp. when it comes to pranayama, specific

kriyas and all navel work.

On the other hand - kids can have a lot of benefits from doing yoga. They

can do most of the asanas, can do relaxations and follow visualisations,

can chant mantras and enjoy 'feeling' their body.

What should not be done for the little ones (younger than teenagers):

vigorous workouts, every pumping of the navel point (eg. Sat Kriya, stretch

pose, breath of fire, etc.), all pranayama except long deep breathing. Also

refrain from doing long or 'weird' meditations. The main point for kids and

yoga is - to have fun.

Good book to read: 'Fly like a butterfly' from Shakta Kaur Khalsa.

Sending you blessings and light from Shanghai,

Adarsh S.

My daughter has been taking Kundalini yoga in a kids class at Yoga West in

L.A. since she was 3. No problem and great for her. Yoga West was Yogi B's

first US yoga studio. He is very into young children learning kundalini yoga.

Blessings
