Guest guest
David Sat Nam! Check out Warrior Workout by Ravi Singh - this video is available from list sponsors Yoga Technology - www.yogatech.com Best wishes Gordon - David Coutts Kundaliniyoga Sunday, September 26, 2004 12:49 PM Kundalini Yoga Warrior's Yoga What is the best Kriya for soldiers? I know that Yoga was practiced by the Warrior Caste of India and also by masters of the various Indian and Sikh Marial Arts. I would like to know if there is a "warrior's kriya", one that will enhance the abilities vital to a soldier; strength, speed, courage, endurance etc. Respect, David
Guest guest
Sat Nam David, immediately I would say: hero pose - you do it while aquarian sadhana. 22 min sitting on the left heel, hands in prayer pose in front of the heart and chant 'wahe guru - wahe guru - wahe guru - wahe jio'. If done correctly (most people do it not really with a straight back) this is the kriya for heros. Another good ones: archer pose and definitely Sat Kriya. Sending you blessings and light from Shanghai, Adarsh S.

Which uses sword and shield. Their training is specific to these weapons and many more. However they practiced the system of "vyayama" or physical exercise to get in shape and stay in shape. Some of these exercises are part of the Indian tradition of fighting that includes indian wrestling and the arts of attacking the vital points. The two best all round exercises are called Baithaks "indian squat"(similar to deep knee bends) and Dands (jacknife push-ups). In kundalini Yoga there is a set called "Sarbhang Dande Kriya" that will take care of strenght, focus and developping shakti power.(A classic kriya!) Also the vyayam called "frog poses" build up to 108 times (2x a day) will give great stamina. Sat Siri Akal (Sorry, but you will have to locate these exercises in books)

On page 74 of Ravi Singh"s book "Kundalini Yoga for Body, Mind, and Beyond", There is a long set called "Warrior's Workout". It's got both Serabandanda Kriya and Frog Pose (do at least 108 at a time) in it. "Sikh Warriors were said to practice Serabandanda Kriya 108 times, 26 times a day. It is said they developed the strength to hurl a spear through a steel shield." > > I would like to know if there is a "warrior's kriya", one that will > enhance the abilities vital to a soldier; strength, speed, courage, > endurance etc. and don't forget your reflexes and flexibility (mental and physical)! Chanting or even listening to Jaap Sahib (different from Japji Sahib) while doing certain exercises is a proven technique for transforming fear (Vata imbalance) into Prana (fearlessness) which is synonymous to a strong Eighth Body. A strong Eighth Body is absolutely essential to a vital Tenth Body and Royal Courage. Having a fearless, clear and joyful mind makes for the capacity to be proportionate and masterful in your responses to any given situation. The word Swami means quick and quick is pretty important, as you might imagine. There is also an "exercise" called Panthara (sometimes spelled Pentra) which is part of the Sikh swordplay called Gatka. Yogiji has said it the fastest way to balance both the Left and Right Hemispheres of the brain so that you can be a whole person. You may find a video somewhere online. Panthara is something that is best done with Jaap Sahib. For Panthara the version by Ragi Sat Nam Singh is best. There is one other version that is worth checking out. It's the last four lines of Jaap Sahib by Kulwant Singh and Liv Singh. The pacing of it is similar to Ragi Sat Nam's version. The version by Vikram Singh is better for other exercises. Both are available at www.yogatech.com along with books and videos mentioned above. Ragi Sat Nam Singh's Jaap Sahib may be a different story. I have actually remastered it (very much needed) and can maybe get you a copy.
