Chanting

How loud does the chanting of a mantra need to be please? I feel

inhibited about this since I live in a small house and do not want

the neighbours on either side to hear. This may be a minor question

but it seems that unless I chant at a certain level there is no

vibration to have an effect. Will the mantra itself have an effect

even if only chanted internally?

I always chant mantras. First to get your mind acquaint with the mantra

you can chant the mantra loud or you can whisper it. But later you can

just chant it internally. Or if possible you can chant the mantra from

the beginning internally. When you chant the mantra internally it has a

very powerful effect. Some days I chant mantras the whole day in my mind

while driving, walking, etc.

I find that I like the vibratory feeling in the chest, throat, sinus

cavities, stomach, and for me that takes some volume. Not enough that

neighbors would hear, (unless there are shared walls, and your walls are

thin) but enough that the actual sound vibrates. Funny I always thought

that was the purpose of the mantra-the sound vibration...It is the stuff of

the universe of creation?

 

I have only been practicing for 2 years, and have only begun training for

teaching. But I have meditated and done many parts of kundalini in another

discipline for the past decade. I know my Ommmmmm's! And I love the Long

Eck Ong series, it lights my heart and life.
