Guest guest
Sat Nam, I have been doing the KY exercises in Gurmukh's video, "Kundalini Yoga" since last December. I recently added the kriya to remove inner anger to my daily practice. (on the advice of Guru Ravi Kaur). It has been extremely helpful to me in maintaining emotional balance on a daily basis - if not quite arriving at the point of neutrality. Over the weekend, I developed a severe stiffness in my lower back - especially on the right side. I am not sure if this is a result of relasing inner anger or just a matter of pulling a few muscles. In either case, I don't know if I should discontinue the KY exercises entirely - particularly the ones that require twisting and stretching until the pain subsides. Is it possible to do the kriyas alone? I'd appreciate any suggestions you may have. I am most grateful for the information and guidance I receive from this group. I have been unable to locate any teachers or classes in the Spokane, WA area. The combined experience and wisdom within this group is amazing. It is a special blessing. Sat Nam. Guest guest
Sat Nam Sadhana, I work with people with chronic pain. I certainly can't diagnose your client's issue from afar but usually pain between the should blades is due to ongoing tension and anxiety if there hasn't been an accident at some point. It would be advisable that she get xrays if this is a chronic condition, or there's been some form of injury that initiated the cycle of pain. (Especially since the wrong exercises and postures can aggravate any physical damage to the spine.) However, it's most likely that it's anxiety and tension and a result of postural issues or a repetative movement. Regular massages could help in this situation, as well as a movement towards proper self- care and self-observation by the client (quite often "helpers" don't help themselves very well). For some people - and especially those who give but don't receive very easily and have ego and power issues wrapped up in giving - chronic pain can be an excuse to accept some help (this could well be the case with someone who practices reiki but who hasn't healed themself and/or hasn't intuited the root cause of their pain...especially with a pain that is most likely due to tension and anxiety). Maybe see if your client is repressing emotions she considers "bad" in an effort to be perfect and peaceful on the surface - that would certainly cause some chronic pain in the mentioned area. Chronic, constant pain is almost always the accummulation of neglect on some level - be it physical, emotional or psychological. On the physical level, if she does cat/cow daily that should help with tension in that area, as would any vertical or lateral stretches that open up the chest area. (As long as there's no physical injury!!!) I hope some of this helps! peace, love and light ovasoul
