sleep- not enough of it

Sat nam,

I get up at 3:30 am to do yoga and sadhana. Sometimes I can go to bed

at 9:30 but other times not till 11 or 12.

So I am very sleepy all the time. I have been doing this for 3 weeks.

Will I get used to less sleep?

That is what I keep telling myself, but if anyone can re-affirm this

that would help.

Secondly, I read that there are different kinds of sleep, and that

doing yoga, we will eventually spend more time on the deep refreshing

kind of sleep, and thus we need fewer hours.

But at the moment I fall asleep during the day, at a movie, while

reading a book. I can't nap during the day. I just never do.

Do you have any advise for me, or to just keep up, and it will get

better?

thanks,

kartar kaur

yoga and meditation should reduce the time you spend sleeping...

you should not reduce the time you spend sleeping for yoga or meditation...

let it occur naturally...

if you sleep less to do yoga and meditation, you'll lose quality in

your yoga and meditation.

the best thing is to go to bed before (or at) 10PM, then you just

sleep all you need. the rest of the time is when you can work on

yourself to lessen your need for sleep.

Dear Kartar Kaur,

Frankly this is not good. You need enough sleep. Something is going to

have to be adusted. If you fall asleep reading a book that is because you

are not getting enough sleep.

One can certainly get less sleep, but being sleep deprived in another thing.

Your body is telling you that 3 1/2 hours is not enough.

No. not if it is not enough. You might be able to get used to 6 hours. We

can sometimes substitute sadhana for some sleep since the sleep in the early

hours if often not very deep and energy is consumed by dreams.

This is true, but you still have to get enough, whatever that is for you.

don't burn yourself out. You are going to need your kidneys for a long

time.

Hello,

I usually have a nap of 1-2 hours after my morning sadhana routine - I find

that i can get on with my day as nomal if i do this. I can go a few days

without this (esp when in a group where the group energies keep you going )-

but then it catches up with me.

regards

Jass
