Sat Nam Glen!

Ahimsa (non-violence) is a precept of Yoga Sutra that speaks to non-violence

in all of our actions, against self and others. That's a spiritual reason for

eating vegetatrian. Emotionally when we eat flesh(especially animals that

have been treated inhumanely and slaughtered inhumanely) that energy is eaten

along with the flesh. Physically, there has been lots of research documenting

increased testosterone (tranfers to anger) levels in meat eaters. Hormones,

antibiotics (if you are not eating organic meat) poses its own set of problems.

Ayurvedically Vata types need more grounding in their diets and meat is a quick

way to get there. That may be what you intuitively are feeling. Yet any Yogic

diet omits meat therefore a good way to ground (bring more protein into your

diet) is with Kicheree(28 g protein). Vegetables eaten with legumes increses

protein content. Actually we need a lot less protein than our Western minds

believe. (think Atkins :0) Somewhere between 25 and 40 g of protein is

sufficient.

That's not hard to consume daily. Vegetables should be lightly cooked for Vata

and Kapha Doshas, Pitta with their firey constitution are the only ones that

can handle raw veggies. To explore recipes that are Yogic friendly visit my

website under recipes icon. www.skyoftheheartyoga.com For an experiment try not

eating meat for a week and notice how your practice is affected.

Blessings in health!
