Guest guest
Sat Nam Carol! Something that helped me and helps my students is visualizing the Sa Ta Na Ma as beautiful playful children on a sort of slide. Sliding down from the crown to the point behind the third eye and sliding out to the third eye point and beyond. Sa Ta Na and Ma (children) can then be visualized as the individual mantra when you get that down! I hope it helps! Blessings! Guest guest
Carol, I have 2 suggestions based on my experience trying to find the L while doing Kirtan Kriya. First, my understanding is that the pineal gland is at the base of the L. This gland is related to light and to the third eye. Here is a hyperlink (and the address should the hyperlink not work), in case you are interested in learing more about the pineal gland. Pineal gland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pineal_gland ) I quote: "...it has been found that the pineal gland manufactures trace amounts of the psychedelic chemical dimethyltryptamine, or DMT. This endogeous chemical in the human brain is believed to play a role in dreaming and possibly near-death experiences and other mystical states. It has been suggested by the researcher Jace Callaway that DMT is connected with visual dreaming." "Rene Descartes called the pineal gland the "seat of the soul", believing it was unique in the anatomy of the human brain in being a structure not duplicated on the right and left sides." "The pineal gland is occasionally referred to as the "third eye" in occult religions, and the brow chakra in yoga, and is believed by some to be a dormant organ that can be awakened to enable telepathic communication." "Consult your pineal gland" is a common saying in Discordianism, a pseudo religion which emphasizes chaos. Some Discordians seem to regard the pineal gland as the source of answers to life's most difficult questions." Visualizing the movement of the L contacting the pineal gland helped me anchor it there too. It helped me just to realize the intent of the L involves bringing energy down through the crown chakra, to the pineal gland , and then out into the world through the third eye. Secondly, slowing the movement of the L down helped me get accustomed to it. So I started with one L for the SA_TA_NA_MA. That slowed it down enough for me to work with it. Then, when I was comfortable with that, I progressed to an L for SA_TA and another L for NA_MA. And so on... Perhaps this will be helpful for you too. All my best, Sat Nam, Pritem
Guest guest
Dearest Pritem, I find this MOST interesting!! I am, however, just recovering from a fatal computer failure ( a lesson for me to be learned I'm sure in regards to patience and expeecations) so I'm just TRYING to catch up on all of the wonderful posts to this group....what are we discussing when we say 'The L'?! Guest guest
Kartar Kaur: Thank you for the welcome and for your suggestion of Kirtin Kriya. Would I need to do the Kirtin Kriya for 40 days in a row to receive the most benefit? I hope you do not mind my asking, but as much research that I have done, I still feel like a beginner at times and questions arise and I've have no-one to ask questions to. (The nearest KY teacher is 3 hours away in Pittsburgh, therefore it isn't practical for me to attend training so I do everything on my own). I practiced the releasing fear mudra last evening and when I rested I had a compelling urge to scream. I did scream many times. I couldn't have stopped if I wanted to. It wanted to come out. It's perplexing to me because I do not know why I am screaming or what causes it. (This isn't the first time & probably won't be the last) I know the information refers to a cleansing process. Do you think this is an emotional cleansing? No images are coming to my mind at the time. Overall I feel pretty good overall...just have the need to scream. Would you have any further insight into this or any documentation that may explain someone else's process that would be similar? During my meditations I shake a lot also to the point where it's distracting. Would I be correct to assume that this is healing energy going through my body? Is the energy stuck? I have the most movement in my arms, face, and neck. My head just wants to shake back and forth. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Do I need to ground myself better or work on a particular charka or is this okay? Thank you, Brenda
Guest guest
One of the problems with being on your own is that you are on your own! Kundalini Yoga places a lot of emphasis on group consciousness i.e. multiplying the effects (and strength) of an exercise, kriya or meditation via the number of people practicing it together. To answer (or to try to answer) your specific questions: It is best if you can practice Kirtan Kriya for 40 consecutive uninterrrupted days. Even better would be 120 days and the SSS has even prescribed 1,000 days. In this way you will master the practice (and be able and obligated to teach others)and become one with it. Screaming is ok. Yogi Bhajan would have us scream, or laugh or jump around, or dance as a way of balancing and coordinating the energy of an exercise. We sometimes need to do it to get rid of negativity stirred up through our yoga and med. You also need to consider whether your screaming might "disturb" others, family or neighbors. Sometimes it might be best just to shake your arms and legs as a way of dispelling or dispersing the energy. The positive upheaval we are subjecting our psyches to when we practice KY and meditation must be experienced. Some laugh, some cry, some scream, some just feel the pain and let it go. It is most important to just experience what the universe has in store for you and go on with your spiritual practices. Life is a process, screaming may be part of it. The shaking is probably nerver repair. The mudras and sound vibrations generated by an exercise or meditation cause actual physical effects. This may be what you are going through. As long as it is not disturbing or disruptive to your practice go through it as best you can. The most important thing you need to do it "Keep up" and you will be kept up. Blessings and, ... oh yeah, Keep Up. Guest guest
Dear Brenda, Wow. It sounds like you are doing a wonderful cleansing. I know what you mean about not having someone to ask questions of. So keep asking of this group, it is wonderfully helpful. I wanted to add to what Karta Purkh said in response to you- re kirtan kriya- If you go back in this list one month or 2, and search for "kirtan kriya" you will find many posts which came up when some of us started doing this mantra and we had questions and we got answers. Another suggestion is - see if you can find someone on the list who wants to practice this mantra with you. It helps to stay committed if there is someone doing it with you. And you can share your experience. Guest guest
Thank you for the tips Kartar Kaur. If there is anyone within a 60 mile radius of Altoona, PA and would be interested in pursuing KY as a group, please let me know.
