Guest guest
Sat Nam, I had a woman come to me and ask how can we claim that "Kundalini is the mother of all the Yoga's"... I expalined the diamond theory of how Yogi Bhajan has said that Kundalini is the diamond & each school of yoga is a facet of that diamond... I know that we incorporate all the schools of yoga, would you say that Kundalini is where all other yogas stem? Are we the oldest yoga tradition? I'd greatly appreciate any clarification on this, thank you very much, Jiwan Shakti Celebrate 's 10th Birthday! Guest guest
Sat Nam Jiwan Shakti, "What is the purpose of Hatha yoga? The purpose of Hatha Yoga is to raise the awareness. It is a technology to bring the apana and prana, the moon and sun powers, together to raise the consciousness through the central equilibrium line. In other words, its stated aim is to raise the Kundalini. That is the purpose of Hatha Yoga. The problem is that it takes about 22 years to raise it that way, even with perfect practice. That is the long method". These are Yogiji's words. Yoga, as most people see it is simply Asana practice and maybe some groovy meditations. Kundalini as Yogiji taught it to us retains the integrity of the Hatha and Raja disciplines and tradition and Kundalini is spoken of as a Raja Yoga. Also, and perhaps this is a bit too mystical for many on the Group to "Grok", Yogiji's personal Saint is Guru Ram Das (Guru Ram Das was blessed with the Throne of Raja* Yoga*). When one gives his/her all to a focus you become the object of your focus. If you meditate on a diamond or a flower, you internalize those qualities. If you focus on a bowling ball, well......... In the absence of Yogiji in his physical form, tuning in with Ong Namo, Guru Dev Namo is the start. Without that a yoga practice can easily become about one's ego (one's limitations) and not the INFINITE. A Sadhana is supposed to challenge you and then bring you a sense of your limitlessness. Have you ever heard of Ashtanga, the Eight Stems of Yoga? (and I absolutely don't mean Ashtanga Yoga particularly ) Patanjali covered the Eight stems very well in the Sutras. There are several publications of the Sutras by Patanjali. This is absolutely essential reading for anyone serious about a Yogic lifestyle in all it's richness whether you are a Sikh or not. The Eight Stems are Yamas Niyamas Yogasanas Pranayama Pratyahara Dharana Dhyana Samadhi A reasonable explanation of each can be found at http://www.lifepositive.com/Body/yoga/ashtanga-yoga.asp * From the Siri Guru Granth Sahib ang 1399 Page 1399 Raaj jog thukhuth dheean gur raamudhaas Guru Raam Daas was blessed with the Throne of Raja Yoga.
