Guest guest
Sat nam, 6 days ago I started a kriya for "Elimination and Digestion" from the 'Flow of Eternal Energy' book. It's hard, and makes me feel real good after! Constipation has been a problem my whole life, hence this kriya. Since I started doing it, the problem has actually gotten worse. Also since I started doing KY in Nov, my hot flashes have come back. Hot flashes which I thought I left behind 8 years ago after menopause. This is not about- is KY good for me? I feel wonderful in 100 different ways since doing KY. But I would like some insight about what is going on. Is this typical? Is it my own self being perverse? Appreciate any thoughts. Guest guest
My personal experience with Kundalini yoga is that it accelerates the process of change. (Actually KY is normalizing the processes from the decelerated habits our body mind and soul have gotten into through poor nutrition and activity.) That having been said, perhaps the kriya you are doing is enabling your body to "dump" a lot of toxins into your system, hence the constipation (and maybe even the hot flashes--I'm a guy so don't take my word). As I tell my students you must take the habits of breathing deeply and calmly outside the yoga class. Remember the breath, remember the breath! As well, be sure your diet is undergoing some kind of adjustment. Don't know if you're a vegetarian but that definetly helps. Also, the major change should be the introduction of lots of good water into your diet. These aren't the only things you can do, but keep up your practice and follow your intuition. God bless. Guest guest
I am not a physician so, take my words for what they're worth. My experience is that KY will jumpstart cleansing. I was told by a wholistic health practitioner that diarrhea and constipation were essentially the same issue. So, it might be a sign that things are cleansing. (my experience is that alot of illness is the body trying to cleanse itself) But, I also suggest relating your situation to your MD (if you haven't already). Ky is great and it can heal alot of physical issues (it certainly has with me), but it never hurts to be safe! Guest guest
Sat nam, Karta Kaur, My experience with KY krias is that they DO indeed APPEAR to be worsening the symptoms, BUT this is part of what makes Kundalini yoga SO wonderful! This is Clearing and removing baggage, in terms of internal Purification and cleansing!!! Please Keep up, and continue, however, drink as much water as you can to flush these toxins away. Have you approached this from a nutritional angle, as well? Walking is activity the body also needs for proper elimination. The point of it all is to develop a regular, not always daily, habit upon arising, to empty the colon. That is health!!! Your hot flashes, and I speak as a post-menopausal woman myself, may be from awakening of Kundalini energy, in the form of Shakti. And, boy, do I know about the annoying Shakti-symptoms when it is out of balance with Shiva! For me, simple meditation IS THE BALANCER!!! I have no over-balanced Shakti symptoms anymore! Keep an eye closely for worsening of the hot flashes(prickilly tingling, itching, as signs Shakti is in over-load!!!) I PRAY NO ONE Experiences a Shakti crash, as I had!!! Another theory is REJUVENATION, coming from regular KY practice!!! You may even begin developing acne(pimples) again! JUST JOKING!!! Guest guest
sat nam everyone, this conversation is reminding me of a friend who was in therapy, dealing with a lot of painful things from his past. he said it was so difficult, sometimes he wanted to throw himself off a bridge. i suggested to him that he take a break. i pointed out that there is no timeline for him dealing with these issues, no deadline. if it was so painful that he wanted to die, maybe it would be healthier and more beneficial to give it a rest. i wonder where this line is, in KY practice and in all things. living with constipation day after day after day is frustrating, painful and unhealthy. at what point should kartar kaur take a break, leave the kriya aside for a while, maybe do a different one for a few days? yogi bhajan said it is up to us how slowly or how quickly we clear out the garbage. i just wonder how to make the best decision about that. thanks for your insights. sue in seattle Georgia Victoria Weinkauf wrote: > > > Sat nam, Karta Kaur, > > My experience with KY krias is that they DO indeed APPEAR to be > worsening the symptoms, BUT this is part of what makes Kundalini yoga > SO wonderful! Guest guest
Dear Kartar Kaur, I don't know you so I may not be correct but is it possible you are pushing yourself too much? After menopause women also need to be gentle with themselves as well as push through with physical kriyas. Its good to sweat and be warm with Kundalini yoga, but hot flashes are the result of depleting hormones and fluids. Therefore if you are experiencing them again after 8 years it might be due to over-exertion. Perhaps Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa knows something more about the effects of Kundalini Yoga on women who have gone through the menopause. However you also said it makes you feel real good so maybe it is just about keeping-up and drinking lots of water to flush out toxins as Nirmal Kaur suggests. The diet reference is also correct. Whole grains and organic vegetables need to be the basis of the diet because again constipation is caused by lack of fluids and roughage flowing through the gut. In the end guess you need to decipher for yourself what is going on by working on developing your intuition and creativity so that you will no longer be able to think yourself capable of being perverse! Love and light, Sat Nam, Guru Sahai-

THE FOLLOWING POST CONTAINS SOMEWHAT GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS OF A NORMAL BODILY FUNCTION. Just to address this particular situation: Over in India there are very few toilets as we Americans know them. I would guess that the incidence of colon cancer is far lower than in the west. Most bathrooms, both public and private, have simple holes in the floor. Users must squat, as in crow pose, in order to move the bowels. Yogicly speaking, crow pose is THE pose in which to eliminate solids from our bodies. It may be impractical for those of us with regular toilets, I for one have not mastered the art of perching on the porcelain. Solution: get one of those small 8, 10 or 12 inch step stools and place it in front of the toilet. Putting your feet on top raises the knees above the level of the rectum which approximates crow pose. Not to brag but, I can't remember a morning in the last few years that I haven't been able to move my bowels before sadhana. Guest guest
sat nam, I appreciate everybody's feed-back. Actually my 'problem' has disappeared so maybe it had nothing to do with the kriya I am doing. I want to add to what's been said that we must use our own common sense and intuition as well as advice. I have learned to trust my feelings and I really trust the technology of Kundalini Yoga and the process. If the condition continued, and if I thought I were having a response to the kriya and a healing 'crisis' I would nevertheless continue the kriya. I think if you stop in the midst of a healing then you lose ground. also in my case the positive effects of KY outweigh the 'negative' by abou 1000 to 1, so I'm willing to go thru feelings, such as sweats, that are not entirely pleasant. I'm sure it is all good. (smile). Kartar Kaur
Guest guest
Dearest Karta Kaur, Sat nam!!! BRAVO!!! You are using your Intuition, and Self-Knowledge (INNER GURU!!!), by Deciding for Yourself what is RIGHT FOR YOU!!! Hopefully, all of this Wisdom is a RESULT of your DILIGENT and daily practice(Sadhana) gained from Kundalini yoga, AS taught by Yogi Bhajan!!! And I BEleive IT IS. KEEP-UP, and you WILL BE KEPT UP by your OWN INNER GURU, God(or whatever Higher Power you choose), and Guru's Grace!!! Love, Light and Many Blessings!
