Guest guest
Sat Nam Kartar Kaur, I'm not sure that this was answered for you, so I'll give it a try.... while there are many different types of meditations that we practice in Kundalini, yes (: chanting mantras is certainly one of them...the beauty of chanting mantras is that while we allow our thoughts to just pass thru, we attach nothing to them, keeping a neutral mind... working with energy, the thoughts vibrate at a low level while the mantra vibrates at a higher level, vibrating the thoughts out of our subconscious...& while we have thousands of thoughts that come thru daily,is why we chant daily to help clear the mind, keep it clean...daily maintainance if you will....smiles also another benefit of chanting the mantras is that we have meridian points at the roof of our mouth & when we chant, this stimulates the hypothalamus, which stimulate the pineal & pituitary glands... which are known as the "Divine Glands" because they are connected to our higher states of Concsiousness... in class I have shared a fun experiment with my students & perhaps you like to give it a try... after you tune in, do your warm ups, your Kriya,& some breathwork & then try sitting in a quiet state with your eyes closed & meditate...be with yourself,be mindful of how you feel & how quiet you can become.... "THEN"...with the eyes closed, chant a mantra (even for just three minutes)& then after you chant, sit quietly again & meditate in silence, be with yourself & see how you feel.... mantras are powerful stuff, really do help clear the mind...Wahe Guru! also, you had asked questions pertaining to sadhana- we are taught that as teachers that we have a specific sequence that we should follow when we teach a class,(so I practice my Sadahan in the same sequence) examples given above ie;always tune in first before you do any Kundalini, then warm ups,Kriya, rest, breathwork & meditation...we have a couple of reasons why we are asked to follow this sequence, one is that we are dealing with energy & by doing the sequence we are gently allowing our bodies to open itself up to this beautiful energy...also, ultimately when we work on our bodies by doing the yoga we are releasing excess adrenaline & energy so that when we get ready to sit & do our meditation, our body & mind can become quiet & we can find our center with much more ease..smiles just imagine for a moment... that you would try come from a busy day without any preparation & just plop down & try to meditate...hee hee hee (try it)smiles also you asked about the music, while I choose to chant specific mantras for specific meditations (as you know Kartar)smiles, during my morning Sadhana I personally start with Japji (like they mentioned in the site that Dharam shared with us-thank you Dharam:) & depending on how much time you are able to give yourself, there are many very beautiful CD's that are specifically called "Sadhana chants", which what these are, are 7 specific songs that Yogi Bhajan has shared with us to chant into the Aquarian Age...& I will sit & chant with one of these CD's during my Sadhana which is such a beautiful experience all in itself, seriously...for me its like a little reward that I gift myself with after working on myself, I save this for the very last & everytime I am so excited to sit & be in the moment...bliss pure bliss...then I sit quietly.....ahhhhhh may I also mention that Sadhana does mean "personal spiritual practice" which 'key word' is "personal", so you do what works for you & enjoy whatever it is you decide to do...all things mentioned are suggestions & its like anything else, the more we put into it, the more we get out of it...and I share with you from personal experience that while I prefer & am grateful when I have 3 hours to dedicate to my practice, now...when I first started I began with 30 minutes & for me as I began to see & feel what my daily commitment was doing for me, it became a natural progression where I just wanted more because I felt so good!...even 30 min...most defenatly started my day on a wonderful note.... hope this helps to answer your questions....smiles always in love & light, Jiwan Shakti Kaur (Beautiful...Sunny...Florida,USA)
