Guest guest
A question. I tend to be a shallow breather and vigorous 'breath of fire' just tends to leave me spacey. In contrast, concentrating on a progressive contraction of muscles from the pelvis up the spine, while moving up a subtle or imagined pocket of air, seems to have a far more powerful effect certainly in producing more heat. I feel however, I may be going wrong in not doing full breath co-ordination. (In other words, I probably 'cheat' a bit by doing normal breathing interspersed with the 'breath of fire'). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for a great website - - Australia
Guest guest
Hi John, Breath of fire can have that effect on people. So, that's not unusual. If you're doing it correctly, you needn't worry about that effect. As your lungs and nervous system strengthens, that effect will diminish with practice. If you haven't learned it in person from a teacher (i.e., from reading a website or book) you may be doing it incorrectly. Breath of Fire is not the same as Bellows Breathing. (many people make that mistake) The second type of breathing you mentioned is powerful, but it is a different technique, it is not breath of fire. Breath of Fire can be done more slowly at first until your lungs, diaphragm and nervous system strengthen. If you have a teacher that you can consult in person, that would be best. If not, someone on this list might be able to recommend to you a video that contains examples of breath of fire. I hope that helps. Guest guest
Not really clear on what you're doing wrong or how you might be cheating. BOF strengthens the navel point. If you have to do it slowly to get the muscles moving correctly, then do it slowly. I also advise my students that if they think they are doing it wrong then focus on the exhale, bringing the stomach back towards the spine briskly. This will "force" a strong inhale in reprisal. Do it slowly, speed it up gradually and be sure you're balancing the inhale with the exhale. Have fun! Sat Nam. Kundaliniyoga, "John B Rooke" <i...> wrote: > > A question.
