Guest guest
This a good Monday Morning topic "Chocolate contains not only caffeine, but also two other compounds with possible sex-enhancing effects, anandamide and phenylethylamine. The term, anandamide, comes from the Sanskrit ananda, which means bliss. Discovered in 1996, it's a neurotransmitter chemically similar to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the intoxicant in marijuana, which may partly explain why some people find chocolate so intoxicating. Phenylethylamine (PEA) is "the molecule of love," according to the late Theresa Crenshaw, M.D., author of The Alchemy of Love and Lust. PEA is a natural form of amphetamine. It's also a natural antidepressant. Both love and lust increase blood levels of PEA, but after a heartbreak, PEA levels plummet. Chocolate contains high levels of PEA, which may explain why the broken-hearted sometimes binge on chocolate--it's a way to raise their PEA levels. Critics contend that chocolate's PEA is metabolized so quickly that it couldn't have much sexual effect. Perhaps, but giving chocolates has become a worldwide courtship" http://sexuality.about.com/od/aphrodisiacs/p/chocolate.htm
Guest guest
Dear Dharam, thank you for sharing this enlightening article! I am a lonely person in a lonely city, next to other lonely and bored people, so the interpretation that the text gives about chocolate being the first-aid for heartbreak and sexual uplift might as well be very true. Next question would be if, just for the sake of body´s health, it´s preferable to find a substitute for chocolate or if chocolate is lastely so healthy that I won´t have to worry for that. In a way I am glad to learn that my chocolate addiction might have rescued me from ever considering taking drugs. On the other hand chocolate contains a lot of fat and sugar and my thought is that with advancing age and slow-down of body functions these might harm the system, especially the lymphatic one, eventually fatten the liver or disturb the intestinal functions. Thank you so much. Cheers, Betty NEVER GIVE UP UPON YOUR DREAMS - FOLLOW THE SIGNS. http://www.warriorofthelight.com _______ Información de Estados Unidos y América Latina, en Noticias. Guest guest
Sat Nam Good morning, while I certainly can understand some of the benefits of eating chocolate, personally I think it can be poison to the system...from my own experience, while I may feel absolutely in heaven while I'm eating every delicious bite & I may feel a chocolate buzz after...soon after that I feel the fall "BIG" time & my body wants to go to sleep. Because of the caffeine even though I may feel lethargic, I can't sleep & lay there with the caffeine buzz (yuck!), & as little as 3 pieces of chocolate can affect me like that.I defenatly can't do chocolate at night... Hours later or the next day I feel that is has affected my mood & I feel & irritable & out of sorts...& if I overindulged I would even feel depressed.Caffeine also affects the nervous system & affects my personal yoga practice, especially when I meditate to where I cannot go to that quiet place during meditation... and yes it is hard on your liver, affects the pancreas because it has to dump alot of insulin into your body to compensate, & has alot of fat... sorry.... to bumm anyone out who was really counting on all out indulgence, something to consider is eating Carob, it doesn't affect your blood sugar & has no caffeine & when you do indulge, consider doing so in moderation..."do everything in moderation..including moteration"...smiles I'd like to share something that has really helped me. When I decide to enjoy a piece of chocolate I get the very best I can find & I will sit mindfully & enjoy every moment, I take little mouse size bites & gently allow it to melt in my mouth, savoring each bite...what I have found is that whether I would bite a big bite or a baby bite, it all tastes the same in the mouth,so by slowly eating just one piece I am content...try it... funny story: I was at summer solstice & doing Tantra & during one of the breaks I went up to a booth who was selling some whole foods, popcorn(yum)& baked goods- they had homemade chocolate chip cookies & I was on a mission to get me one of them (I had seen them a couple of days before, & after two days of Tantra, I figured I deserved one...smiles-funny how we rationalize things..heehee)anyway, he gently said sorry can't sell you one now....you'll have to wait till after Tantra...hmmm, while I was a bit surprized, I have to say I was so grateful for his mindfulness...such a caring gesture...smiles with many blessings, Jiwan Shakti
