Guest guest
sat nam linda, you have done a lot of work! wow! i don't know 1/8th the amount of things you know but from my female perspective, i would offer this (and not call it wisdom): don't think of normal, healthy functions of the body as illness or weakness or problems. heart palpitations are not what i'm talking about. heart palpitations may indeed be signs of a cardiac illness or weakness or problem that needs treatment. you mention dealing with menstrual problems and perimenopause also. i would encourage you not to succumb to the trap our society lays for women when it treats menstruation, pregnancy, labor and delivery, lactation, perimenopause and menopause as things to be dreaded, suffered through, subjugated, controlled, feared, etc. these are Normal, Natural, Healthy experiences. maybe embracing them instead of trying to cure them will bring you some comfort? maybe your heart palpitations are in some way related to some internalized fear of these experiences? think of it this way: if men were subjected to the amount of negative messages that women are about these things our bodies do that we have no control over, i think they would not enjoy their erections half so much!! haha!! sue in seattle > > > Any thoughts of wisdom, especially from the female perspective would > be appreciated. > > Thanks, Linda. Guest guest
Blessings & Sat nam, As one who has had heart palpitations for over 20 years, my 1st thought is to be checked by a trusted physician who could run a simple EKG and other exam to make Sure there is nothing Seriously going on or not. In my case I had the EKG as well as a Heart Ultrasound, and fortunately, my palpitations were not serious, or had to be put on meds. My 2nd thought is STRESS!!! This Alone with anxiety and being out of a fitness program, coupled with caffeine intake CAN cause palpitations! Not Even To Mention Smoking!!! My 3rd thought is "NO" to your Question about doing "more strenous" asanas. This will Only make things worse! May I ask what type of Pranayama you are doing? I believe Long Deep Breathing(Diaphragmatic) & Breath of Fire Pranayamas are Excellent. STEADY AS SHE GOES!!! Do ONLY what makes YOU feel comfortable, and SLOW DOWN or Stop doing that which causes palpitations!!! The Wonderful Aspect of doing KY, Pranayama, Always as instructed or what Can BE Done, I NO LONGER have heart palpitations! Try to Observe your Daily Lifestyle, Sadhana,Pranayama and Go With The Flow!!! Guest guest
Sat Nam Linda, I will keep this quick, as I am not a woman The cause or reason given for palpitations will vary according to who you talking to. In Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicines a much more holistic view is espoused ( http://www.chinesemedicinesampler.com/pathguideheart.html ). An acupuncturist will tell you that what they are doing is working with the emotions, and the sub emotions, and the sub sub sub emotions in all their varied manifestations. Palpitations is often a cover for some deeper, less comfortable feeling, just as are obsessive thinking, compulsive eating, cigarette smoking and a whole host of other diversions. In other words you are on the edge of a tremendous opportunity for growth and "self actualization" (sorry for the lofty terminology but its true). Go ahead and get that EKG but my sense is the doctors wont find much and if they do then still go ahead and do the "REAL work". You are the world's greatest authority on YOU - don't give that power to anyone. The biggest help at this time would be to find an Ally in a good body centered therapist who is trained in an "Intense-Feeling Psychotherapy" like Bioenergetics. ( http://thepositivemind.com/HTML/intensefeelingarticle.html ) "psychotherapy is not a critical necessity, but rather a way of speeding up the growth process. Why wait to be wise? Why go through a series of difficult relationships in order to learn what really works for you? Deep in the recesses of your mind is all the wisdom you'll ever need. Psychotherapy is a great way of tapping that wisdom and learning how to use it" from http://thepositivemind.com/HTML/WhenPsychotherapyIsNecessary.htm This is very often a necessary tool and ignored complement to the yogic disciplines. It's where many of us get to fully experience the blossoming and full integration of the Kundalini energy. Personally, without both of these I may not be healthy, or even here, today due to much "angina" and chest tightness in my teen years. Mind you, I was very athletic (track and baseball) and a winter mountaineer at the same time. Guest guest
Sat nam, Thanks to all who responded. Your perspectives were all useful. I think these are manifestations of Kundalini rising which can sometimes be alarming. I mentioned female issues because Chinese medicine says the energy moves from the reproductive organs to the heart as women approach the end of those years. I've had routine EKGs and these and blood tests have always shown good health. Acupucunturists haven't picked up a heart problem but I will mention it when I go this week. Working with the Kundalini can be a little alarming sometimes. Upon reflection, I realized that the fluttering comes from the center of the chest, while the physical heart is on the left side. Sometimes there is fluttering in the throat. Tell that to an MD and you might as well be speaking Chinese. It would be nice to hear more about manifestations of Kundalini rising from the more experienced members of this group. Sometimes it feels like there is some reason it is not discussed that I am ignorant of. Thanks again, Sat Nam, Linda.
Guest guest
Sat Nam Linda, How wonderful to have a heart opening!!! I am 32 years old and have experienced Kundalini energy since I was 5. I have had numerous afflictions and experiences, so many that I have have a log of events and body symptoms. I just had surgery in January for a herniated disk at L5, and since then have had dreams/nightmares that would be relevant to the 1st and 2nd chakras. They are easing off a bit, but now my neck is stuck (in the South, it's a "crick") and I am to have ultrasound on it. I do practice KY about twice a week, and I chant for a little while everyday... I have seen lights, space shifting, you name it. I have spent my whole life in fear of IT, but I am just now starting the process of embracing IT. Sorry if this sounds vague, but this is a big subject and I don't know where to start. You are not alone. P.S.-(My doctors think I am speaking Chinese too. I stopped making my "hippie" comments to her/him) Light and Blessings~ Lori Kundaliniyoga, "lmont123" <lmont123> wrote: > > Sat nam, > > Thanks to all who responded. Guest guest
Sat Nam Linda, You ask about manifestations. Well, aside from a bumpy start in '77 (my personal story is in the list archives) my life with Kundalini is one of pleasantness, focus, health, clarity and the list goes on. The 'manifestations" that so often become topics on other list serves or in Gopi Krishna's book are from random awakenings often brought on spontaneously (life will raise your Kundalini, too) or by improper guidance. On this list we talk of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan. Sure there is emotional work to do, and a lot of that will never become an issue if one chants at least 11 minutes at the end of a yoga set. Chanting is the deeper, more subtle adjustment many overlook in this world of constant DOING, and it is something our heart (etheric, energetic and physical) absolutely needs. There are too many facets and aspects in our minds and hearts to try and keep track of. Chanting from the heart and with total mindfulness after a good yoga set will take care of it all, especially if done in the Amrit Vela (3 -6am - http://www.sahej.com/millis_ashram_sadhana.html ). I don't know anything about your personal practice but make sure you are doing it, literally, by the book. No need to reinvent this wheel. Hope this helps, Sat Nam, Dharam Millis, MA lmont123 wrote: >It would be nice to hear more about manifestations of Kundalini rising >from the more experienced members of this group. Guest guest
Something to meditate on http://www.sahej.com/Ahamkara.html From the Vedic perspective (Yogic Science), a strong sense of self coincides with a strong immune system. The "immune system" gets its orders, you might say, from the Thymus gland which is located right over the heart. In the ancient Greek tradition, the Thymus was seen as the seat of the Soul. Soul is there for you when there isn't a lot of distance, or any, between head and heart/body - when Ojas is flowing (this monologue can go on). What is Yoga supposed to do???????????
