Guest guest
Sat Nam, dear Siri Ram Kaur, tell the lady, that Yoga is no competition sports, its a tool to develop more (body) awareness. I would first adress the dizzyness. To my understanding this comes from the inability to breath properly. I see this very often with my students at the beginning. Deep breathing, esp if done with spinal flex or spinal twist makes most of them dizzy. The only way is - work through. Teach the long deep breathing - breathing from the belly and then allow her to rest in baby pose after this exercises. Let her walk every day 3 - 5 km. Give her a mild set e.g. with squats, live nerve stretch, etc. Nothing too hard or difficult, but still challenging. She must get a connection to her body. For the overweight - diet is one thing, strengthening the will power to resist cravings is another thing. Here I would ask the lady if she really wants to become healthy or if she wants to do yoga just for the peace of mind. If she wants to achieve something, set her goals, e.g. drink no more soft drinks, replace one junk food meal per day with a salad, skip the sugar in the coffee, make the coffee light with lots of milk, walk stairs instead using the escalator, ride a bicycle instead using the car for short distances, etc. You can be very creative. I found, if a student feels being important and if you continuosly encourage, check the progress and lovingly support, they can do miracles to themselves. Grab them at their ego - this is always the weak point: 'Come on, you can live for one day without Coca Cola ?! And if you can do one day, then you can also do 2 days, etc.' Sending blessings and light, Adarsh S.
Guest guest
Sat Nam, I'm a hatha yoga instrucor from Malaysia. With regards to your enquiry, I would advise you to start the diabetic student with the asanas as below: 1) Surya namaskar 10 min daily followed by proper breathing which should be done very slow. This daily exercise will ensure proper blood circulation and it will revive all the organs and chakra's 2) Savasana(corpse pose) 20 min after surya namaskar with deep breathing-(inhale 1, 2, 3, 4 hold 1, 2, 3, 4, exhale 1, 2, 3, 4 hold 1, 2, 3, 4) as our organs need blood and oxygen too. By doing this asana all the dead cells will revive back and you will see a positive result within couple of weeks. Wish you good luck! Guest guest
Siri Ram, The millet weight loss diet helps balance blood sugar. It is described in on-line yoga training Lesson 23. <kundalini yogakyt23.html> I am not a teacher but as a student who wrestles with weight issues I urge you to give this student some poses that are easy enough to THEM to feel some success with. I dropped out of a yoga class once that was suppose to be a "gentle" class. The teacher asked us to draw our knees into our chest and relax between almost every pose. This was great for most students but if a person has excess fat around the abdomen drawing the knees into the chest is not relaxing and can be very uncomfortable! This is just one example. Your student may need to learn some adapted or supported poses. Good Luck! Peggy Sue
