Guest guest
Sat Nam and many thanks, Gurushabd! I really appreciate your advice. I'm thinking that I really would like to see an ayurvedic practitioner. The more I delve into this the more complex and rich it is, and I know that I need much more guidance. Do you or does anyone know a good ayurvedic practitioner in the Chicago area?? Thanks again to everyone who responded. Sleeping in a bit later does seem to have helped the past few days, and I'm trying to get to bed earlier...by 10pm...I think 9:30pm is better, though...9 hours is probably good for me, especially since my sleep is still light and I'm still waking up a few times during the night. I also switched to the triple mantra since the full moon and that seems a bit more energizing. GuruShabd, could you address > the possibility that different types have different optimal sleep schedules? Most definitly. Vatas are the ones that need most sleep, between 7 or even 9 hours. >From an all-around health perspective (not keeping yogic practices at amrit vela in mind), vatas can wake up as "late" as 06:30 am. The reasoning behind this is that kapha time in the morning starts at 06:00 am. If you are sleeping after this time, the kapha will increase making you lethargic and dull (think of those sunday morning when you sleep in till noon and don't get anything done). This is not really going to be a problem for vatas (who are quite thin and jumpy by nature). Kaphas on the other hand need to get up as early as 04:30, and preferably sleep around 5-6 hours. Pittas around 6-7 (5:30 wake up). Staying up late aggravates vata, making us restless and ungrounded. Artist love to stay up this late, as vata (air and ether elements) governs creativity also.
