Guest guest
Well, this promises to be a strange request... I've joined this list in hopes that this is the right environment to begin asking this question. I know fairly little about Kundalini, but it's the closest analog to my experience that I've found so far. I'm looking for any related experience or advice you can forward to me. So, I have what seems to be an "energy"-related problem. It feels to me as though there is, and has always been, just too much energy or "chi" flowing through me-- as though my spiritual "electrical cord" carried twice the voltage of most people. My inspirations (when they come) are all-consuming, my grief is incapacitating, my interpersonal mojo ("personal magnetism") is so strong that it gets me into trouble. I process things (psychologically) much more quickly than other people, learn skills twice as quickly, etc. etc. I have maybe a dozen stories (which might easily be coincidences, I know, but are good metaphors either way) about electrical devices inexplicably breaking near me when I'm really upset about something. I suppose it sounds great or interesting if you aren't born with it, but it has made my life exhausting and overwhelming. 15 years of concentrated effort has made me, finally, able to keep a game face and shield the people around me from it (I come off as relatively mellow and stable), but it's not getting any easier on * me *. I'm finally coming to terms with the fact that I've got to learn how to channel / mitigate it or, it seems to me, it's going to do more than just exhaust me... it's going to damage my body, and maybe the people who're close to me. And, so you know, this isn't manic depression or anything like that (or straight mania). I'm pretty familiar with that brand of illness... this is quite different. The point is, I don't have the first idea of who to talk to about how to learn to consciously handle this. Most of what I read about energy medicine is about people wanting to awaken their energies; I want the opposite. I either want a smaller current flowing through me, or I want to learn how to handle the current I have, smooth it out and calm it down, so it isn't so darned hard on me anymore. Meditation doesn't cut it... quiets my mind, sure, but doesn't slow or smooth out the energy. Yoga frees up energetic blocks, but... well, that can actually make it worse. I really feel like I need help with this. My intuition tells me that the Yogic disciplines are the best place to start looking, but I just don't know who to start talking to. I probably need to work with someone, but... what kind of someone? Can an energy worker help me with this, or should I start somewhere else? Is there a name for it? Please FWD me to any resources (books, ideas, people, disciplines etc.) that you think are appropriate. Thanks a lot in advance, --K
Guest guest
Hi Kim, You came to the right place. Kundalini Yoga is all about handling the voltage. The question is -- what kind of kriyas should you do? I would recommend doing the Kirtan meditation at least a few times to see what effect it has. Kirtan goes like this (please feel free to add/correct any misinfo, veteran teachers): sit in easy pose, cross legged, eyes closed and focused at brow point. Chant "Sa Ta Na Ma" in regular volume, and with each syllable, touch in order the index, middle, ring and pinkie finger to the thumb. Do this for 5 minutes, then chant the same syllables in a whisper for 5 minutes using the same mudra (hand motion), then "chant" them silently (just vibrate them) for 11 minutes with the mudra, then whisper again for 5 minutes with the hand motion, then chant aloud for 5 minutes with the hand motion. Feel the energy entering through the crown chakra (top of your skull) and exiting through the third eye (brow point). Kirtan will help you relax and align your higher chakras. I find it to be very relaxing -- it helps me to sleep well. "Sa Ta Na Ma" is a seed mantra and can help you realize your destiny. KY has many gifts to offer. You might try buying a video from yogatech.com and following it, or looking for classes in your area -- check kundalini.org for KY teachers in your area. Check the numerology link at Kundalini.org. Good luck! Avneesh Singh, Milford NH >
Guest guest
Dear Kim: I agree with Karta Purkh. Simply find a kundalini yoga teacher near you(check out www.kundaliniyoga.com and select teacher directory) and start practicing the yoga. Feel how it changes, strengthens you. Gauge how much you can handle at first. But it will safely strengthen your nervous system so you can use/handle the energy available to you. The key is to be consistent and disciplined, to keep up. Things will change for you. And let us know if you have any more questions. Guest guest
Hi Kim, Submitting your birthday info (for Tantric Numerological purposes) might be helpful. ( http://www.sahej.com/Tantric_Numerology.html ) At any rate, sounds like there is need for some "proportionality", and that would point to, perhaps, a need to look at your level (and depth) of TRUST in the world around you. Also, where are you from? Where do you live now? How long have you been there? How long have you been "amped"? Did this start at a particular time? Any info you are willing to offer would been of use Sat Nam, Dharam Singh Millis, MA
